Job summary

VCU Health is seeking a Certified Surgical First Assistant to participate in and actively assist during surgical operations, providing exposure, maintaining hemostasis, and performing technical functions under the surgeon's direction.

Requirements include NBSTSA CSFA certification, State Board of Medicine registration, BLS/HCP certification, ACLS preferred, and experience as a Surgical Technologist or CSFA. Ability to work all shifts, weekends, and holidays in a hospital setting in Virginia.

Qualifications

• Registered by the State Board of Medicine and NBSTSA for CSFA certification
• Current AHA, BLS, HCP certification
• ACLS preferred
• Experience as a Surgical Technologist or CSFA
• Education options include a Surgical Technology program or related advanced degree

Responsibilities

• Assist in operations under the surgeon's direction to make incisions and close sites
• Manipulate or remove tissues and implant devices or drains
• Suction the surgical site and apply dressings
• Place catheters and clamp or cauterize vessels or tissue
• Takes call for routine or high acuity cases after orientation

Skills

CSFA certification

Surgical experience

BLS certified

Education

High School Diploma or equivalent

Graduate of accredited Surgical Technology Program
