Job summary

Henrico Doctors' Hospital, part of HCA Healthcare, seeks a Certified Surgical Assist to join the Operating Room team. You will create and maintain sterile fields, prepare equipment per patient and physician needs, and assist the surgeon to ensure safe, efficient care.

The role emphasizes on-call flexibility, patient safety, and supporting department operations while upholding hospital policies.

Qualifications

• Experience in surgical assisting with CSAs scheduled and BLS maintained.
• One year OR scrubbing experience required; two years preferred for SA role.
• Currently enrolled in an accredited RN program is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Serve as a professional member of the OR team.
• Maintain sterile field using aseptic technique.
• Plan and provide equipment and supplies based on patient and physician needs.
• Demonstrate competency in assisting surgeon within unit scope of care.
• Promote cost containment while delivering quality patient care.
• Participate in on-call assignments and staffing coverage.
• Be a resource for other staff and support department operations.
• Provide a safe environment for the patient during preoperative experience.

Job Summary and Qualifications

The Certified Surgical Assist will serve as a professional member of the Operating Room team. You will utilize principles of aseptic technique in creating and maintaining a sterile field, plan and provide equipment and supplies based on patient and physician needs and demonstrate competency in assisting surgeon as it relates to unit scope of care. You will also serve as a resource person for other staff members.

• *5. Participates in on-call assignments and demonstrates flexibility to cover staffing as needed.
• *6. Demonstrates flexibility to perform other functions within Surgical Services to assist in the smooth operation of the department.
• *7. Provides a safe environment for the surgical patient during their preoperative experience.
• *8. Serves as a resource person for other staff members.

What qualifications you will need:

• EXPERIENCERequired – Successfully completed an approved Surgical Assisting Program. BLS certification maintained. Documentation of continuing education units required for CSA/CFA recertification and experience. Maintain clinical status.Preferred – SA with a minimum of 4 years experience in all areas of surgery.EDUCATIONRequired – Minimum of one year operation room scrubbing experience.Preferred - Minimum of two years as a surgical assistant; Currently enrolled in an accredited RN program
