Job summary

Henrico Doctors' Hospital in Richmond, VA, is seeking a Certified Surgical Assist PRN to join the OR team. The role involves maintaining sterile technique, supporting the surgeon, and ensuring safe patient care in the operating room.

Occasional on-call shifts and flexibility are required. The successful candidate will have completed an approved Surgical Assisting Program and hold a current BLS certification, with ongoing education to maintain CSA/CFA recertification.

Qualifications

• Experience with aseptic technique and sterile field management.
• Experience assisting surgeons across multiple procedures.
• Ability to participate in on-call rotations and staffing coverage.
• Familiarity with hospital policies and patient safety standards.

Responsibilities

• Utilizes aseptic technique in creating and maintaining a sterile field.
• Plans and provides equipment and supplies based on patient and physician needs.
• Demonstrates competency in assisting surgeon as it relates to unit scope of care.
• Promotes cost containment while delivering quality patient care within the operating room.
• Participates in on-call assignments and demonstrates flexibility to cover staffing as needed.
• Demonstrates flexibility to perform other functions within Surgical Services to assist in the smooth operation of the department.
• Provides a safe environment for the surgical patient during their preoperative experience.
• Serves as a resource person for other staff members.

What qualifications you will need:

EXPERIENCE

Required – Successfully completed an approved Surgical Assisting Program. BLS certification maintained. Documentation of continuing education units required for CSA/CFA recertification and experience. Maintain clinical status.

Preferred – SA with a minimum of 4 years experience in all areas of surgery.

EDUCATION

Required – Minimum of one year operation room scrubbing experience.

Preferred - Minimum of two years as a surgical assistant; Currently enrolled in an accredited RN program
