Job summary

Retreat Doctors' Hospital in Virginia is seeking a Certified Surgical First Assistant PRN to join the operating room team. You will scrub, assist the surgeon, and help prepare and stock rooms to ensure smooth surgical procedures, while upholding sterile technique and patient safety.

Required is a minimum of three years OR scrubbing experience and a current BLS certification. This PRN role offers competitive hourly pay and aligns with the hospital's patient-care mission.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Graduate of an approved CORT program, or RN/LPN, or Certified Surgical Assistant Program.
• BLS Certification required at time of hire.
• Minimum of three years operating room scrubbing experience.

Responsibilities

• Provides a safe environment for the surgical patient during perioperative care.
• Maintains sterility using aseptic technique.
• Plans and provides equipment and supplies based on patient and surgeon needs.
• Demonstrates competency assisting the surgeon according to unit scope of care.
• Assists and educates the scrub team when unfamiliar with procedures.
• Promotes cost containment while delivering quality patient care in the OR.
• Maintains professional demeanor with surgeons, staff, and patients.

Job Summary And Qualifications

• Provides a safe environment for the surgical patient during the perioperative experience
• Utilizes the principles of aseptic technique in creating and maintaining the sterile field
• Plans and provides equipment and supplies based on patient and physician needs
• Demonstrates competency in assisting surgeon as it relates to unit scope of care
• Provides assistance and education to the scrub if unfamiliar with procedure or surgeon preference
• Promotes cost containment while delivering quality patient care within the operating room

• Pursues own professional growth and development through continuing education, seminars and in-services
• Always treats physicians and patients as customers, being mindful of time and place for airing complaints or issues
• Maintain positive attitude and professional demeanor with surgeons, staff, patients and the management team
• Demonstrates flexibility by working with OR management and surgical team to cover call and staffing needs
• Assists the staff with room preparation, turnover, and stocking of rooms and carts
• Exercises sound judgment and decision making skills on behalf of patient, self and peers
• Adheres to hospital policies and procedures; supports the mission of the hospital
• Demonstrates flexibility to perform other functions within Surgical Services to assist in the smooth operation of the department.
• Compliant in completion of mandatory annual educational requirements
• Maintain all active licenses/certifications as required by law to practice profession

What qualifications you will need:

EDUCATION

Required –

High School Graduate or GED.

Graduate of an approved CORT program, or RN, or LPN, or Certified Surgical Assistant Program.

Certification in training as a Surgical Assistant or RNFA if hired after 12/31/2018

Preferred - Certification in training as a Surgical Assistant or RNFA if employed prior to 2019

BLS Certification – required at time of hire

Experience

Required - Minimum of three years of operating room scrubbing experience.
