Job summary

CJW Medical Center is seeking a Surgical Assistant to support the operating room team in Richmond, VA. You will scrub in, maintain sterile fields, assist the surgeon, and help with equipment and supplies to meet patient and physician needs.

Requirements include three years of OR scrubbing experience, Virginia license as a Surgical Assistant, BLS within 30 days, and vocational school graduate status; on-call flexibility and commitment to safe patient care are essential.

Qualifications

  • BCLS must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date.
  • Vocational School Graduate.
  • Minimum of three years operating room scrubbing experience.
  • Virginia State License as Surgical Assistant required.
  • Preferred: One year experience as surgical assistant.

Responsibilities

  • Utilizes principles of aseptic technique in creating and maintaining a sterile field.
  • Plans and provides equipment and supplies based on patient and physician needs.
  • Demonstrates competency in assisting surgeon as it relate to unit scope of care.
  • Promotes cost containment while delivering quality patient care within the operating room.
  • Participates in on-call assignments and demonstrates flexibility to cover staffing as needed.
  • Demonstrates flexibility to perform other functions within Surgical Services to assist in the smooth operation of the department.
  • Provides a safe environment for the surgical patient during their perioperative experience.
  • Serves as a professional member of the OR team.
  • Pursues own professional growth through continuing education and inservices.
  • Adheres to hospital policies and procedures; supports the mission of the hospital

What qualifications you will need:
  • Basic Cardiac Life Support must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date
  • Vocational School Graduate
  • Required - Minimum of three years operating room scrubbing experience.
  • Preferred - One year experience as a surgical assistant.
  • Required: Virginia State License as a Surgical Assistant
