Primary Duties and Responsibilities

Under the direction of the Director of Surgical Education, the Surgical Education Technology Manager for the Center for Advanced Surgical & Interventional Technology (CASIT) will oversee Center operations, with primary responsibility for surgical education and training programs, accredited surgical service lines, and CME/MOC activities. The Manager will develop and implement education and training programs for UCLA and community, national, and international audiences; expand the Surgical Education Technology Industry Affiliates Program focused on emerging surgical and interventional technologies; expand accredited education, simulation, certification, and research programs. The Manager will develop and support grant proposals and funding initiatives to advance surgical education, simulation, technology development, and research. The Manager will oversee the Center’s education budget, purchasing, equipment maintenance, technical operations, and engineering support; provide instruction and proctoring for surgical technology and minimally invasive skills assessments; and serve as the lead specialist for surgical and interventional simulators, supporting faculty and learners across surgical specialties. The position will also supervise administrative and simulation staff, recruit and oversee volunteers and temporary personnel, and ensure the effective delivery, quality, and continuous improvement of simulation-based surgical education programs.

Salary Range: $73,000.00 - $149,600.00 Annually

All Required:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant field (i.e. education, business operations, or related technical field) or equivalent experience and/or training.
  • 3+ years of management experience
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with technical, administrative, clinical, and academic personnel at all levels both inside the University and in other institutions, agencies and corporations.
  • Ability to identify and prioritize new opportunities and unmet needs, to initiate selected projects for the enhancement of Surgical Education Technology Programs, including the Surgical Education Technology Programs AEI and the Surgical Science Laboratory, and to manage projects to completion.
  • Ability to understand a wide variety of technologies in order to prioritize and allocate resources across Surgical Education Technology Programs and Surgical Science Laboratory projects. Working knowledge of engineering and technology research and development and management methods and processes.
  • Working knowledge of government contracting practices and regulations as they impact technology research programs.
  • Ability to write technical proposals and reports
  • Understand principals of curriculum development and course design and learner assessment
  • Ability to plan, analyze and manage budgets for ongoing operations and grant proposals.
  • Work well in a dynamic, highly changeable, multidisciplinary research, education, and clinical support environment.
  • Intellectual generalist with ability to understand significance of surgical and interventional technology advances.
  • Strong computer skills with MS applications and ability to learn new applications quickly.
  • Knowledge of UCLA policies and practices for fund management, purchasing, facilities, HR, travel, lab safety, etc.
