Job summary

South Shore Health is seeking a Professional Surgical Coder I to assign ICD-10-CM, CPT, and E/M codes for inpatient and outpatient services. The role includes reviewing clinical documentation, querying providers to ensure accuracy, and ensuring coding compliance for optimal reimbursement.

The coder will collaborate with physicians and leadership to support documentation improvement, maintain high coding standards, and ensure entries in Epic are accurate.

Qualifications

• Two to three (2-3) years in a surgical practice preferred.
• CPC - Certified Professional Coder
• ORCCS-P Certified Coding Specialist- Physician Based

Responsibilities

• Analyzes patient records and interprets documentation to identify diagnoses and procedures.
• Codes records for inpatient, outpatient, and observation settings with high accuracy.
• Identifies complications or comorbidities and applies sequencing guidelines.
• Queries providers to clarify documentation when needed.
• Ensures accurate coding information is entered into Epic.
• Maintains current knowledge of coding developments and attends required trainings.
• Assists with responses to billing review requests and supports AHIMA standards.
