Job summary

Piedmont Healthcare Corporate is seeking a skilled medical coder to review, analyze and code medical records across multiple specialties, ensuring accuracy and compliance with ICD-10, CPT and HCPCS standards.

The role includes abstracting demographic data, validating medical necessity, and auditing orders/claims to minimize denials. Candidates should have at least 1 year of experience with various specialties and an AJPC-accredited coding certificate is preferred.

Qualifications

• H.S. Diploma or GED is required.
• AAPC-accredited Coding Certificate preferred.
• 1 year of professional coding experience across multiple physician specialties is required.
• Remote coding experience is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Reviews, analyzes, and codes medical record documentation to ICD-10, CPT and/or HCPCS to greatest specificity.
• Abstracts demographic and coding information into the information system accurately.
• Reviews documentation for medical necessity.
• Audits orders and claims before submission for accuracy to minimize denials.
• Provides guidance to physicians and staff in identifying and resolving issues.
• Primary coding responsibility is diagnostic and complex procedural and surgery coding.

Responsibilities

Reviews, analyzes, and codes medical record documentation to include, but not limited to, medical diagnostic and complex procedural information for general surgical specialties for the correct ICD-10, CPT and/or HCPCS codes to the greatest specificity. Abstracts demographic and coding information into the information system accurately and completely. Reviews documentation for medical necessity. Audits orders and claims before submission for entirety and accuracy and to minimize claim denials. Assesses records and prepares reports. Provides technical guidance to physicians and other departmental staff in identifying and resolving issues or errors. Develops effective working relationship with physicians and other stakeholders. Primary coding responsibility is diagnostic and complex procedural and surgery coding.

Qualifications

Education

H.S. Diploma or General Education Degree (GED) Required

Coding Certificate program (AAPC accredited ) Preferred

Work Experience

1 year of professional coding experience across multiple physician specialties, including but not limited to Radiology, Surgery, Cardiology, Orthopedics, Neurology, Hospital Medicine, Internal Medicine, Behavioral Health, Pediatrics, Women's Services, Oncology, Gastroenterology, Urology, and other specialty practices Required

Experience in coding across multiple specialties and remote coding experience is Preferred

Licenses and Certifications

One or more of the following certifications: Upon Hire Required

• RHIA - Registered Health Information Administrator or
• RHIT - Registered Health Information Technician or
• CCA - Certified Coding Associate or
• CPC, CPC-A, or CPC-H or
• CCS or CCS-P
