Job summary

Piedmont Healthcare is seeking a skilled medical coder to accurately assign ICD-10, CPT, and HCPCS codes for a range of surgical and diagnostic cases. This role is based in Atlanta, GA and requires working closely with physicians and care teams to ensure compliant documentation and timely claim submission.

Ideal candidates will have a GED or higher, an AAPC coding certificate (preferred), and at least one year of diversified coding experience. Familiarity with remote coding is a plus.

Qualifications

• H.S. Diploma or GED required.
• AAPC accredited coding certificate preferred.
• 1 year of professional coding experience across multiple specialties required.

Responsibilities

• Review, analyze, and code medical documentation to assign ICD-10, CPT, and HCPCS codes to the greatest specificity.
• Abstract demographic and coding data into the information system accurately.
• Audit orders and claims before submission to minimize denials.
• Provide guidance to physicians and staff in identifying and resolving coding issues.
• Develop effective working relationships with physicians and stakeholders.
• Primary coding focus is diagnostic and complex surgical coding.

Responsibilities

Reviews, analyzes, and codes medical record documentation to include, but not limited to, medical diagnostic and complex procedural information for general surgical specialties for the correct ICD-10, CPT and/or HCPCS codes to the greatest specificity. Abstracts demographic and coding information into the information system accurately and completely. Reviews documentation for medical necessity. Audits orders and claims before submission for entirety and accuracy and to minimize claim denials. Assesses records and prepares reports. Provides technical guidance to physicians and other departmental staff in identifying and resolving issues or errors. Develops effective working relationship with physicians and other stakeholders. Primary coding responsibility is diagnostic and complex procedural and surgery coding.

Qualifications

Education

• H.S. Diploma or General Education Degree (GED) Required
• Coding Certificate program (AAPC accredited ) Preferred

Work Experience

• 1 year of professional coding experience across multiple physician specialties, including but not limited to Radiology, Surgery, Cardiology, Orthopedics, Neurology, Hospital Medicine, Internal Medicine, Behavioral Health, Pediatrics, Women's Services, Oncology, Gastroenterology, Urology, and other specialty practices Required
• Experience in coding across multiple specialties and remote coding experience is Preferred

Licenses and Certifications

• One or more of the following certifications: Upon Hire Required
• RHIA - Registered Health Information Administrator or
• RHIT - Registered Health Information Technician or
• CCA - Certified Coding Associate or
• CPC, CPC-A, or CPC-H or
• CCS or CCS-P
