Job summary

Rothman Orthopaedics in Marlton and Washington Township seeks a Surgical Clinical Assistant to support physicians with clinical and administrative tasks. You will help with post-op care, pre-admission testing orders, patient communication, and chart preparation.

The role involves assisting with post-op procedures and coordinating patient flow in a fast-paced orthopedic practice. Hours are Monday–Friday, 8:00am–4:30pm, totaling about 40 hours per week.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Must be CCMA, CRMA, EMT or ATC with active certification.
  • Active professional license/certification required.
  • Knowledge of medical office procedures and terminology.
  • Proficient computer skills including MS Office Suite.
  • Experience with EMR systems preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Greet patients and escort to exam room.
  • Direct patients to surgery scheduling or front desk for checkout.
  • Maintain order, cleanliness and inventory in exam room and prepare for patients.
  • Cleans and autoclaves instruments.
  • Scan and file paperwork to patient chart for physician review.
  • Record vitals as requested by physician.
  • Prepare injections for physician.
  • Retrieve and review imaging and studies for patient exams.
  • Assist patients with clothing as needed.
  • Dispose of biohazardous waste and replace sharps containers.
  • Answer calls in patient areas and provide voicemail coverage for physician.
  • Request reports from facilities for physicians.
  • Restock and manage laundry.
  • Track appointment flow and help physicians with patient order sequence.
  • Ensure operative reports and studies are present in the chart.

Job Summary:

The Surgical Clinical Assistant (SCA) provides assistance to the Physician and Physician's Assistant with daily administrative and clinical duties. Responsibilities include assisting with post-op suture and staple removal, post-op wound care, pre-admissions testing orders, responding to patient calls and messages, and more.

Key Accountabilities:
  • Increase patient satisfaction, compliance with schedule prep, voicemail, compliance with policies and procedures, decrease wait times.
Responsibilities may include (but are not limited to):
  • Greets patients in the waiting room and escorts them to the exam room.
  • Directs patient to surgery scheduling and/or front desk for checkout.
  • Maintains order, cleanliness, and inventory in the exam room, and prepares exam room for patients to enter.
  • Cleans and autoclaves instruments.
  • Provides and scans proper paperwork to the chart for Physician's review.
  • Records vitals as per Physician's request.
  • Prepares injections for the Physician.
  • Pulls up x-rays, MRI's, CT's, and various studies pertaining to the patient's exam.
  • Assists patient with clothing when necessary.
  • Disposes of bio hazardous waste and sharps according to OSHA regulation, and replaces sharps containers when existing containers are full.
  • Answers telephones in patient areas and provides voicemail coverage for Physician.
  • Requests reports for various facilities for Physicians.
  • Empties and restocks laundry.
  • Scans appointment tracking to identify when patients are ready to be seen by the Physician and directs Physician in patient appointment order.
  • Reviews Physician schedules for chart preparation including ensuring operative reports, dictations, and studies are present in the chart.
  • Completes pre-certifications for MRI's and other Physician orders as necessary.
  • Send Visco Injection authorization request to supplement pre-certification representative.
  • Scans information into patient record (including all Physician orders, prescriptions, etc. on the date of service).
  • Covers other areas in the office when not assigned to a Physician.
  • Attends required meetings and participates on committees as requested.
  • Exemplifies the desired culture and philosophies of the organization.
Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or GED minimum education requirement
  • Must be a CCMA, CRMA, EMT, or ATC
  • Professional license/certification must be active and valid
  • Knowledge of medical office procedures and medical terminology
  • Computer skills including, but not limited to, MS Office Suite
  • Experience with EMR system(s) preferred
Locations:
  • Will primarily work in our Marlton and Washington Township offices
  • Will be expected to provide occasional coverage in our South Philly and Center City offices

  • Medical Assistant (CCMA/CRMA): $18.00/hr - $24.00/hr
  • Emergency Medical Technician (EMT-A/EMT-B): $18.00/hr - $24.00/hr
  • Athletic Trainer (ATC): $23.00/hr - $30.00/hr
