Job Summary

The Medical Assistant provides assistance to the Physician and Physician's Assistant with daily administrative and clinical duties.

Key Accountabilities

Increase patient satisfaction and compliance; timely schedule preparation, voicemail management; accurate end‑of‑day batching; compliance with time stamping, clinical policies and procedures; reduce wait times; ensure timeliness and accuracy of pre‑certifications and authorizations.

Essential Duties
  • Greets patients in the waiting room and escorts them to the exam room, directing them through the entire experience including orthotics, rehab, surgery scheduling, X‑ray, etc.
  • Maintains order, cleanliness, and inventory in the exam room and prepares the room for patients.
  • Cleans and autoclaves instruments.
  • Provides and scans proper paperwork into the chart for Physician review.
  • Obtains and records vitals per Physician’s request.
  • Prepares injections for the Physician as per protocols.
  • Pulls up X‑rays, MRIs, CTs and associated studies and reports related to the patient’s exam.
  • Assists patient with clothing when necessary.
  • Disposes of biohazardous waste and sharps according to OSHA regulations and replaces sharps containers when full.
  • Answers telephones in patient treatment areas.
  • Requests, obtains and uploads reports from various facilities for Physicians.
  • Empties and restocks laundry.
  • Scans appointment tracking to identify when patients are ready to be seen and directs Physician in patient appointment order.
  • Reviews Physician schedules for chart preparation, ensuring operative reports, dictations, and studies are present.
  • Completes pre‑certifications for MRIs, injectables, and other Physician orders as necessary.
  • Send Visco Injection authorization request to supplement pre‑certification representative.
  • Covers other areas of the office as directed by their manager.
  • Covers provider voicemail as needed.
  • Maintains fax logs.
  • Attends required meetings and participates on committees as requested.
  • Reads and responds to email communications within appropriate time frame.
  • Exemplifies the desired culture and philosophies of the organization.
  • Identifies weekly schedule, including schedule changes, published by manager.
  • Handles specimens (including urine, blood, drainage from incisions, aspirated fluids, etc.) and labels them; sends to appropriate lab for analysis.
Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or GED minimum education requirement.
  • Active National Medical Assistant Certification preferred.
  • Minimum of one year of experience in a medical office preferred.
  • Knowledge of medical office procedures and medical terminology.
  • Computer skills including MS Office Suite.
Pay Range

$16.00/hr – $24.00/hr
