Job summary

The Veterans Health Administration, Department of Veterans Affairs, seeks a Surgical Coordinator Registered Nurse at Malcom Randall Medical Center in Gainesville to support surgical care through physician collaboration, preoperative planning, and planning for veterans’ procedures with a focus on compassionate, veteran-centered care.

You will schedule surgeries, coordinate with OR and anesthesia, and ensure adherence to VHA directives while maintaining high standards of patient safety and care

Qualifications

• Graduate of a nursing program approved by ACEN/CCNE.
• Current, full, active, and unrestricted RN license in a U.S. state or territory.
• English proficiency for direct patient care per 38 U.S.C. 7403(f).

Responsibilities

• Serve as patient advocate and address inquiries while coordinating with clinics and OR staff.
• Schedule surgeries and ensure proper documentation per VA directives.
• Maintain performance metrics and participate in quality improvement initiatives.
• Coordinate pre-operative testing, medication changes, travel, and driver arrangements.
• Communicate with providers and Nurse Manager to obtain required items.
• Review reports daily to identify variances and initiate corrective actions.
