Job summary

University Hospitals is seeking a Surgical Assistant I to work under the direction of the attending physician, providing aid in exposure, hemostasis, closure and other intraoperative functions to support safe operations and optimal patient results. Preoperative and postoperative duties are included in perioperative care.

The role focuses on expanding knowledge and skills, collaborating with the interdisciplinary team, and delivering high-quality patient care within the perioperative environment

Responsibilities

• Safe clinical practice focused on expanding knowledge and skills.
• Provides effective relationship-based care as part of the interdisciplinary team to a variety of complex patients.
• Demonstrates technical skills in care delivery that result in safe practice and positive care outcomes.
• Seeks and provides feedback for improved clinical practice.
• Assumes a beginning leadership role and seeks mentoring in the process.
• Provides intraoperative technical functions in all facets of the first assistant role.
• Displays knowledge of the anatomy and physiology of the human body while delivering safe patient care.
• Establishes and maintains a safe perioperative environment.
• Supports the perioperative area as assigned per entity.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
• Complies with all policies and standards.
• For specific duties and responsibilities, refer to documentation provided by the department during orientation.
• Must abide by all requirements to safely and securely maintain Protected Health Information (PHI) for our patients. Annual training, the UH Code of Conduct and UH policies and procedures are in place to address appropriate use of PHI in the workplace.
