The role of the Surgical Assistant is vital in providing exceptional patient care, ensuring the best clinical outcomes, and meeting patient needs.
Role and Responsibilities
- Assist surgeons during procedures by performing tissue retraction, managing intravenous lines, and completing documentation.
- Perform preoperative and postoperative duties to facilitate patient care.
- Verify patient identity and operative sites.
- Discuss surgical procedures with the surgeon, including consent and operative methods.
- Maintain aseptic technique throughout procedures.
- Keep the operative field clear using retractors, sponges, suction, and irrigation.
- Ensure availability of necessary equipment and supplies.
- Inspect and operate sterilization devices for surgical instruments.
- Monitor intraoperative patient status.
- Obtain dental radiographs and imaging.
- Complete patient clinical narratives.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Education and Experience
- High School diploma or equivalent required.
- BLS certification required or ability to obtain within 1 month of hire.
- At least one year of related experience preferred.
- DAANCE certification preferred.
- Licensed dental assistant preferred.
- Radiology certification preferred.
