Job summary

New Haven Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery in East Haven, CT is seeking a skilled Surgical Assistant to join our fast-paced, patient-focused team. You will work alongside experienced oral and maxillofacial surgeons, assisting during procedures, maintaining sterile fields, and supporting patient comfort and safety.

The ideal candidate has prior surgical or dental assisting experience, CPR/BLS certification, and a compassionate chairside manner. ACLS is a plus.

Qualifications

• Requires experience as a surgical assistant or dental/oral surgery assistant.
• Familiarity with oral/maxillofacial procedures and terminology.
• Knowledge of OSHA standards and infection control.

Responsibilities

• Assist surgeons during oral surgery procedures and implants.
• Prepare sterile fields and instrument trays.
• Monitor patient comfort and safety before, during, and after procedures.
• Assist with IV sedation and anesthesia under supervision.
• Take and process dental radiographs as needed.
• Document clinical notes and manage patient records.
• Sterilize and maintain instruments per OSHA standards.
• Educate patients on post-operative care.

About the Role

New Haven Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery is looking for a skilled and dedicated Surgical Assistant to join our dynamic team in East Haven, CT. This is an exciting opportunity to work alongside experienced oral and maxillofacial surgeons in a fast-paced, patient-focused environment where your skills truly make a difference.

Responsibilities

• Assist oral and maxillofacial surgeons during surgical procedures including extractions, implants,
• Prepare and maintain sterile surgical fields and instrument trays
• Monitor and support patient comfort and safety before, during, and after procedures
• Administer and assist with IV sedation and anesthesia protocols under surgeon supervision
• Take and process dental radiographs (X-rays) as needed
• Maintain accurate patient records and document clinical notes in practice management software
• Sterilize and maintain surgical instruments and equipment in compliance with OSHA standards
• Educate patients on post-operative care and recovery instructions

Requirements

• Prior experience as a surgical assistant, dental assistant, or oral surgery assistant preferred
• Knowledge of oral and maxillofacial surgical procedures and terminology
• BLS/CPR certification required; ACLS certification a plus
• Experience with IV sedation monitoring and anesthesia assistance preferred
• Dental radiography certification or ability to obtain upon hire
• Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to work in a fast-paced environment
• Excellent chairside manner with a compassionate, patient-centered approach
