Vermont Oral Surgery Associates is seeking a Surgical Dental Assistant to join our team. You will support oral surgeons during procedures, prepare treatment rooms, and maintain a sterile environment while ensuring patient comfort and safety.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Valid X-ray license is highly preferred but not required.
  • Previous experience as a dental assistant, especially in oral surgery, is desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare the treatment room, keep it clean and organized, and sterilize instruments.
  • Assist Oral Surgeons during procedures, hand instruments, and maintain a sterile field.
  • Monitor patients' vital signs and comfort, ensure safety and infection control.
  • Provide post-operative instructions and patient education on oral health and care.
  • Schedule appointments, manage records, and assist with billing/insurance documentation.

As a Surgical Dental Assistant, you will play a crucial role in providing exceptional patient care and supporting our Oral Surgeons with various surgical procedures. What You'll Do:

The Surgical Dental Assistant will play a crucial role in providing exceptional patient care and supporting our Oral Surgeons throughout various surgical procedures.

The successful candidate will be able to:

Preparing the Treatment Room:
  • Ensure the treatment room is clean, organized, and equipped with the necessary instruments and supplies
  • Sterilize and maintain surgical instruments according to infection control guidelines
  • Set up equipment such as suction devices, dental chairs, X-ray machines, and surgical lights
Assisting with Oral Surgery Procedures:
  • Prepare patients for Oral Surgery, explaining the procedure and addressing any concerns they may have
  • Assist Oral Surgeons during surgical procedures, anticipating their needs and providing the necessary instruments and materials
  • Maintain a sterile environment during surgery, following strict infection control protocols
  • Monitor patients' vital signs and comfort level during surgery, ensuring their well-being at all times
  • Handle and dispose of surgical waste and hazardous materials in compliance with safety regulations
Patient Support and Education:
  • Provide post-operative care instructions to patients, including oral hygiene practices, medication administration, and dietary restrictions
  • Answer patients' questions and concerns, offering reassurance and empathy throughout their treatment process
  • Educate patients about oral health, prevention methods, and the importance of regular dental visits
  • Maintain accurate and detailed patient records, documenting treatment plans, procedures, and progress
Administrative Duties:
  • Schedule patient appointments and coordinate with other dental staff to ensure smooth patient flow
  • Manage patient records, update medical histories, and handle billing and insurance documentation
  • Assist with inventory management, ordering dental supplies, and maintaining equipment
  • Perform any and all other duties as assigned
What You'll Bring:
  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Valid X-ray license is highly preferred, but not required
  • Previous experience as a dental assistant, particularly in Oral Surgery, or a medical assistance background is highly desirable
  • Discharge experience is highly preferred
  • Knowledge of oral surgery procedures, instruments, and materials
  • Familiarity with infection control protocols and safety measures
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with a compassionate and patient-centered approach
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Proficiency in dental software and computer literacy
