Job summary

Frye Regional Medical Center in North Carolina is seeking a Surgical Aide to assist the operating room team. You will perform basic patient care under RN/LPN supervision, support room turnover, and help maintain a safe, clean OR environment.

This is a non-exempt position reporting to the Surgical Services Director. This role requires a high school diploma (or equivalent) and OR turnover experience; BLS is preferred.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Two years of operating room experience.
• Experience with operating room turnover.
• Knowledge of operating room equipment, beds and supplies.
• Healthcare experience as a Medical or Nursing Assistant in OR.

Responsibilities

• Performs direct patient care under RN/LPN supervision.
• Assists with patient preparation and positioning.
• Supports OR turnover and room readiness between procedures.
• Cleans and sanitizes assigned areas for safety and order.
• Keeps shelves stocked with necessary supplies.
• Delivers specimens to the laboratory.
• Retrieves X-rays and patient charts as needed.
• Maintains operating room equipment and beds.
• Supports the surgical team by completing tasks promptly.

Job Summary

Surgical Aide - Operating Room

Schedule: 5x8 Days

Assists in ensuring optimal patient care by providing basic patient care under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN) or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN). Responsible for cleaning and sanitizing the assigned physical environment and supporting the safe, efficient operation of the surgical department.

FLSA Status: Non-exempt

Frye Regional Medical Center, located in the beautiful foothills of North Carolina, is a 355-bed acute care hospital with an 81-bed Behavioral Health facility and more than 70 primary and specialty care providers.

Essential Functions

• Performs direct patient care responsibilities as needed under the supervision of an RN or LPN.
• Assists with patient preparation and positioning.
• Performs assigned departmental tasks that support patient transportation, patient positioning, room readiness, and operating room turnover between surgical procedures.
• Cleans and sanitizes assigned areas to maintain a safe, orderly, and efficient environment.
• Keeps shelves stocked with necessary supplies.
• Delivers specimens to the laboratory.
• Retrieves X-rays, patient charts, and other necessary materials.
• Assists with maintaining operating room equipment, beds, and related items.
• Supports the surgical team by completing assigned tasks promptly and accurately.

Minimum Education

• High school diploma or equivalent; or
• Two years of experience in an operating room setting

Minimum Work Experience

• Experience with operating room turnover
• Knowledge of operating room equipment, beds, and related supplies
• Previous healthcare experience as a Medical Assistant or Nursing Assistant in an operating room setting
• Prior housekeeping experience is desirable
