Job summary

BluePearl Pet Hospital in Portland, OR is seeking a Veterinary Assistant to support our Surgery Department. You will provide nursing care to stable patients and assist with IV work under supervision.

This role requires independence within a collaborative team and a willingness to participate in on-call rotation after training. The ideal candidate has at least two years’ experience in a veterinary hospital, is capable of placing IV catheters, monitoring vital signs, and communicating with clients

Qualifications

• Minimum of two years of experience in a veterinary hospital.

Responsibilities

• Provide nursing care to stable patients according to hospital standards of care and core values.
• Place peripheral intravenous catheter in cephalic vein.
• Perform physical exams; accurately count heart rate, pulse, capillary refill, mucous membranes, temperature, respiratory rate and effort.
• Monitor patient response to fluid therapy and alert doctor when abnormal.
• Set up and administer intravenous fluids, including subcutaneous fluids.
• Operate and troubleshoot intravenous fluid pumps and connect/disconnect patients aseptically.
