Job summary

BluePearl Pet Hospital in Monterey, CA is seeking a knowledgeable Veterinary Assistant to join the Surgery department. The role includes nursing care for stable patients, IV catheter placement, and pre-/post-operative support.

Qualifications

• Minimum 2+ years of veterinary hospital experience.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Rotating on-call schedule after training.
• Provides nursing care to stable patients and supports doctors.

Responsibilities

• Provide nursing care to stable patients according to hospital standards.
• Place peripheral intravenous catheter in cephalic vein.
• Perform physical exams and monitor heart rate, temp, mucous membranes, and respiration.
• Set up intravenous fluids and administer subcutaneous fluids.
• Operate and troubleshoot intravenous fluid pumps.
• Monitor patient response to fluid therapy and identify signs of overload.
