A leading healthcare network in Northern Nevada seeks a Medical Director of Thoracic Surgery to develop the Division of Thoracic Surgery. The role involves clinical leadership, collaboration with healthcare teams, and academic responsibilities with the University of Nevada Reno.
The Renown Medical Group Department of Surgery is searching for an outstanding Medical Director of Thoracic Surgery to start building the Division of Thoracic Surgery within the Renown Medical Group division of Surgical Oncology and the William N Pennington Cancer Institute.
Under the direction of the Chair of Surgery, the Thoracic Surgeon will provide leadership in developing both benign and thoracic oncology divisions. They are expected to be experts in medical and surgical care for patients diagnosed with benign and oncologic thoracic diseases. The Surgeon will diagnose, treat, and manage malignant and benign thoracic surgical diseases. The medical director is expected to collaborate with and supervise mid-level providers and will have some involvement with public health education, administration, teaching, and research. The ideal candidate will be a board-certified Thoracic Surgeon with at least 2 years of experience, having completed an accredited general surgery residency and a thoracic surgery fellowship. Candidates must possess a strong work ethic focused on quality, and collegiality is mandatory. This position is non-cardiac, purely thoracic surgery.
The candidate is expected to qualify for an academic appointment with the University of Nevada Reno (UNR) School of Medicine, build and promote a clinical trial portfolio, contribute to the growth of the William N Pennington Cancer Institute, support the Division of Surgical Oncology, and participate in the educational goals of medical students and residents. They will attend tumor boards as a contributing physician and work closely with pulmonary, acute care, trauma, and critical care teams.

The position involves new patient consults and follow-up appointments in the outpatient clinic. Physician support includes surgery schedulers, MAs, RNs, APPs, PARS, practice site leaders, and a practice manager.

Renown physicians participate as joint faculty at UNR Med, involved in teaching, supervising clinical rotations, and other academic activities for medical and physician assistant students, residents, and fellows.
