Surgery Scheduler at University Surgical Center

University Surgical Center performs a broad range of outpatient surgical procedures. Our mission is to care for every patient and their family as if they were our own. Each patient, each family, each and every time. Our state-of the art equipment allows surgeons to perform procedures in the specialty areas of: Direct Screen Colonoscopy, Gastroenterology, General Surgery, Gynecology, Otolaryngology (ENT), and Podiatry.

Position Overview

The surgery scheduler plays a vital role in a successful surgical procedure. The surgery scheduler is responsible for daily maintenance of the surgery schedule and all aspects of the scheduling process. This includes strategizing and problem solving and ensuring high levels of customer service with scheduling coordinators from all doctors' offices and operating room staff. Successful candidate will possess outstanding leadership, communication and customer service skills as well as the ability to diffuse difficult scheduling conflicts efficiently with strategy. The successful candidate should be able to demonstrate previous successful/positive customer service encounters or programs.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Schedules patient procedures to ensure efficient and accurate processing of information.
• Coordinates with anesthesia groups to confirm scheduling for coverage.
• Set post-surgical appointments with doctors and perform all necessary tests
• Inform patients and any relevant third party through instructions about “things to do” before and after surgeries
• Receive all needed medical records and history from patients
• Take reservations for surgeries and schedule a date based on the availability of the surgeon and the medical condition of patients
• Order patients’ test results and assess information from the report to determine if a patient is ready for surgery
• Create a daily surgery schedule and surgical log for all departments concerned
• Provide information and updates in regards to patients’ surgery schedules
• Verify insurance and authorization
• Promote positive relationships with scheduling coordinators, physicians and nursing staff members throughout the scheduling process.
