About Us

Plano Orthopedic & Sports Medicine Center is a well-established, independent orthopedic medical practice in Plano, Texas. For more than 45 years, our fellowship-trained specialists have provided exceptional, patient-centered care to the Dallas–Fort Worth community. We’re seeking an experienced Surgery Scheduler to join our team and help deliver a seamless surgical experience for our patients.

About the Role

We’re looking for a highly organized, detail-oriented professional with proven experience coordinating surgical procedures from initial scheduling through preoperative preparation.

Please note: This is not a general patient appointment scheduling position. Candidates must have direct experience coordinating surgical cases with hospitals, ambulatory surgery centers (ASCs), physicians, and patients. Previous hands‑on surgery scheduling experience is required; orthopedic surgery scheduling experience is strongly preferred, and candidates with comparable surgical specialty experience will also be considered.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage surgeon surgical schedules, operating room availability, and scheduling changes
  • Communicate with physicians, clinical teams, patients, and surgical facilities to ensure procedures are scheduled accurately and efficiently
  • Coordinate preoperative requirements, including medical clearances, laboratory testing, imaging, and necessary documentation
  • Collaborate with insurance verification and precertification teams to secure required surgical authorizations before procedures
  • Prepare and maintain accurate surgical scheduling documentation, patient records, and surgical packets
  • Communicate surgical instructions, scheduling details, and preoperative requirements to patients
  • Monitor pending surgical cases and proactively resolve scheduling conflicts, missing documentation, and potential delays
  • Coordinate with surgical facilities regarding surgeon preferences, equipment, and procedure‑specific requirements
  • Maintain accurate patient information within the electronic health record system
  • Provide professional, compassionate communication and exceptional patient service throughout the surgical scheduling process

Required Qualifications

  • Previous hands‑on experience scheduling surgical procedures
  • Experience coordinating surgical cases with hospitals and/or ambulatory surgery centers
  • Working knowledge of surgical scheduling processes, preoperative requirements, and insurance authorization procedures
  • Ability to manage multiple surgical cases, competing priorities, and time-sensitive deadlines
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently
  • Excellent communication and problem‑solving skills
  • Proficiency with electronic health record systems and Microsoft Office
  • Understanding of HIPAA and patient confidentiality requirements

Preferred Qualifications

  • Orthopedic surgery scheduling experience strongly preferred
  • Experience in comparable surgical specialties, including spine, neurosurgery, sports medicine, or other procedural specialties
  • Familiarity with orthopedic procedures and related surgical terminology
  • Knowledge of CPT and ICD-10 codes related to surgical procedures
  • Experience with athenaOne electronic health records
  • Experience managing multiple surgeons’ surgical schedules

What We’re Looking For

Our ideal candidate understands the complexities of surgical scheduling, anticipates potential obstacles, communicates proactively, and takes ownership of the process. If you’re committed to delivering exceptional patient care while fostering a positive workplace culture, we’d love for you to join our team.
