Job summary

NAU Urology Specialists is seeking a dedicated Surgery Scheduler in Austin to coordinate surgeries for two surgeons, schedule outpatient visits, tests, and hospital admissions, and manage pre-certifications.

You will verify insurance, obtain referrals, collect payments, and liaise between patients and medical staff while maintaining confidentiality and accuracy in EMR documentation.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Minimum two years of surgery scheduling experience.
• Must have experience with authorizations, insurance verification, referrals.

Responsibilities

• Schedules all surgeries for 2 surgeons.
• Schedules outpatient appointments/testing/surgeries and hospital admissions upon request. Obtains necessary pre-certification as required.
• Responsible for follow up on all pre-operative tests to ensure cleared for surgical procedure and communicates with physician and patients if further testing is required before surgery is performed.
• Obtains and enters all insurance authorization, and correspondence relating to referrals in patients charts and/or electronic medical records (EMR).
• Collects co-pays, deductible and other out of pocket amounts at time of visit.
• Maintains primary office scheduling template containing physician meetings, satellite schedule, rounding and call coverage.
• Arranges for patients to have financial counseling as needed.
• Demonstrates an understanding of patient confidentiality to protect the patient and clinic/practice.

What does the Surgery Scheduler do?

The Surgery Scheduler is responsible for scheduling surgeries and coordinating surgical appointment with the hospital / other departments. Scheduling patient appointments and tests in an efficient and timely manner. Answers all incoming calls regarding scheduling. Serves as a liaison between patient and medical staff. Other duties include insurance verification, obtaining authorizations, referrals, preparing surgery estimates, requesting medical records, collecting payments, etc.
