- Positioning and immobilization of patient to ensure anatomy or blood vessels being examined are in the correct profile and projection. Independent selection of technical factors to ensure high quality images with the lowest possible dose to the patient.
- Participates in and assists in complex interventional procedures such as declotting of blood vessels, UFE, Venous ablations, and other peripheral vascular procedures. These procedures require advanced knowledge of vascular anatomy.
- Performs procedures with Interventional Radiologists, vascular surgeons, neuro radiologists, neuro surgeons, and other specialists.
- Positions patient in proper positions to radiographically demonstrate correct anatomy.
- Obtains radiographic DSA and DA images for interventional procedures and transmits all images to PACS for interpretation by the radiologist.
- Participates in and assists in the performance of complex interventional endovascular neurological procedures, such as aneurysm coiling, stent placement, and other stroke intervention procedures. Procedures requiring a high level of understanding of complex neurovascular anatomy.
- Sets up patient on appropriate cardiac and other monitoring systems. Ability to interpret normal ranges on monitoring equipment.
- Prepares patient in a sterile fashion for procedures. Maintains radiographic equipment and prepares examination rooms and supplies to ensure proper room utilization and efficiency.
- Prepares examination rooms for smooth performance of procedures, including equipment and supplies.
- Assists the radiologist during angiograms and special procedures, including the insertion of arterial needles and catheters.
- Prepares patient for the exam in a sterile fashion, including sterile prep and draping, and preparation of contrast and solutions.
- Maintains a clean and safe work environment by performing minor daily housekeeping tasks.
- Uses Universal Precautions daily to protect against bodily fluid contact.
- Explains examinations to patients and families, and rounds on patients to keep them informed of progress.
- Ensures the timely flow of patients in and out of the Interventional Radiology lab by assisting with patient care and transportation.
- Promotes patient safety by reporting issues and participating in safety initiatives.
- Participates in team problem-solving to improve patient care, department operations, image quality, and staff satisfaction. Is self-directed in securing supplies and equipment.
- Provides relevant patient history and previous examinations information to radiologists to ensure quality care and reduce medical issues.
- Accepts emergency calls and increased responsibilities, responding within 45 minutes.
- Maintains inventory supplies and records all pertinent patient information for accurate billing.
- Delivers patient care in accordance with departmental standards of continuous quality improvement.
- Demonstrates excellent communication skills with all customers.
- Develops leadership and professionalism through participation in committees and continuing education.
- Assumes leadership in instructing and evaluating students and providing staff guidance.
- Attends to personal work schedule professionally, identifies learning needs, and completes development goals.
- Operates sophisticated radiographic and auxiliary equipment to obtain high-quality images.
- Understands and assists with intervention devices such as angioplasty catheters, guidewires, stents, and neuro interventional equipment.
Education/Experience Required- Must have attended an AMA-approved School of Radiologic Technology and be ARRT registered. Must recognize the needs of various age groups and treat all customers with age-specific appropriateness.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required- Ability to perform most interventional radiology procedures with close supervision, use various radiographic equipment, and demonstrate teamwork and communication skills. ARRT registration required.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions- Exposed to radiation, able to deal with ill patients, communicate effectively, and adjust to flexible work hours, including overtime and on-call duties.
- Capable of lifting up to 50 pounds occasionally, with specific requirements for patient handling and standing for long periods with lead aprons.
