Job summary

The Surgery Clerkship Director at Florida Atlantic University—the Charles E. Schmidt College of Medicine—will provide leadership, administration, and oversight of the required surgery clerkship across affiliated sites while maintaining an active surgical practice.

The role includes curriculum development, student assessment, feedback, and mentoring with a focus on LCME standards and collaboration with Undergraduate Medical Education and residency programs.

Qualifications

• MD/DO or equivalent terminal degree and credentials for appointment at assistant/associate/full professor.
• Florida medical license or eligibility; board eligibility/certification in specialty required.
• At least 2 years of undergraduate medical education experience preferred.
• Exceptional interpersonal communication skills required.
• Exceptional writing skills required.
• Strong ethical and professional conduct required.

Responsibilities

• Provide leadership and oversight of the required surgery clerkship across affiliated sites.
• Direct supervision of medical students during surgical clerkship experiences.
• Collaborate on curriculum development aligned with LCME standards and objectives.
• Deliver lectures and facilitate Diagnosis & Reasoning rounds for students.
• Oversee assessment, narrative feedback, and final grades with the grading committee.
• Mentor students, coordinate with residency programs, and support learner development.
