Job summary

Northcoast Children's Services is seeking a Classroom Assistant to support the Center Teacher and staff in delivering developmentally appropriate activities for children, including those with special needs. The role emphasizes teamwork, confidentiality, and respectful engagement with families from diverse backgrounds.

Responsibilities include assisting with self-care routines, classroom setup, and program evaluation.

Qualifications

• Prefer 6 -12 semester units in Early Childhood Education or be enrolled in 2 semester ECE units each semester until completion of the 12 units, including the core courses.
• 6 months experience working with young children.
• Must be able to follow directions and be consistent.
• Must be sensitive to the needs and characteristics of young children.
• Must be dependable, responsible, flexible, and willing to learn.
• Must communicate effectively and be functionally literate in English.

Responsibilities

• Plan and implement developmentally appropriate activities for the children in the program.
• Assist in implementing a program for special needs children.
• Help the children with self-help skills and daily routines.
• Create a warm and accepting environment that encourages independence and self-esteem.
• Respect the confidentiality of information regarding all children and their families as well as other staff members.
• Participate in team and regional meetings, and inservice training as required.
• Collaborate with classroom staff to evaluate daily program and progress.
• Set up the classroom environment and assist with daily cleanup.
