The role is based across our tenanted services, and no two days are necessarily the same. You will work alongside tenants, colleagues, families, health professionals and other partner agencies to provide high-quality, person-centred support.
About The Role
As a Support Worker, you will provide practical, emotional and personal support that promotes independence, choice, dignity, rights and wellbeing.
Your Responsibilities May Include
- Building positive, professional and trusting relationships with the people we support.
- Supporting tenants to make informed choices and develop their independence, confidence and self-advocacy skills.
- Supporting people to access their local community, services and facilities.
- Supporting tenants with everyday living skills and developing their knowledge, skills and confidence for the future.
- Acting as a key worker where required and contributing to the development, implementation and review of individual support and care plans.
- Supporting with risk assessments and ensuring support is delivered in accordance with agreed plans.
- Supporting tenants with budgeting, managing finances and maintaining accurate financial records.
- Supporting with benefits and completing relevant paperwork where required.
- Administering or prompting medication in accordance with training, individual support plans and organisational procedures.
- Providing personal care where required, always maintaining dignity, privacy and respect.
- Supporting tenants to attend appointments, courses, activities, holidays and trips in accordance with their choices and wishes.
- Working alongside families, health professionals and other external agencies to provide coordinated support.
- Supporting tenants with their health, medical, cultural and spiritual needs and providing advocacy where appropriate.
- Maintaining a safe, clean and welcoming environment.
- Ensuring tenants' belongings and personal property are treated with care and respect.
- Maintaining accurate, factual and timely digital records.
- Providing effective handovers and ensuring important information is communicated appropriately.
- Recognising and reporting safeguarding concerns, incidents and other issues in accordance with organisational and local safeguarding procedures.
- Maintaining confidentiality and professional boundaries at all times.
- Working as part of a team and contributing positively to the overall running of the service.
- Supporting the Service Lead in maintaining and developing a high-quality service.
- Undertaking training and contributing to your own professional development.
- Promoting Southend Care's values, principles and the rights and interests of the people we support.
The role may also involve undertaking other reasonable duties requested by the Service Lead which contribute to the effective delivery of the service.

- Previous experience in health or social care, learning disabilities, supported living or a similar setting is desirable but is not essential. We will consider applicants based on their values, transferable skills, suitability for the role and willingness to learn.
- A Level 2 or Level 3 qualification in Health and Social Care is desirable but not essential.
- Literacy and numeracy to at least GCSE grade C/Level 4 in English and maths, or equivalent.
- Ability to work flexibly, including evenings, weekends, bank holidays and sleep-ins.
Driving and travel
The role may involve supporting tenants across different services and helping people access appointments, community activities, courses, and trips.
A full UK driving licence and access to suitable transport would be desirable.
