Job summary

Meridian Health Services is seeking a friendly Support Staff Technician to be the welcoming first point of contact at River Bend Hospital in West Lafayette, Indiana. You will assist patients, visitors, and partners while upholding privacy and hospital policies.

The role supports admissions, handles calls, and helps maintain a safe, efficient front desk environment with professional communication and compassionate service.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent is required or preferred.
• Two years of office or administrative experience is a plus.
• Strong communication, organization, and customer-service skills are expected.
• Ability to stay calm, professional, and compassionate in fast-paced situations.

Responsibilities

• Greet visitors, assess needs, and connect them with appropriate staff.
• Answer, route, and document routine and emergency calls; page staff as needed.
• Manage visitor access, issue passes, and explain hospital policies.
• Support admissions and discharges by documenting activity in the EMR.
• Inventory, store, and return patient valuables.
• Coordinate room scheduling and assist with clerical tasks.
• Respond to alarms and emergencies per hospital protocols.
• Communicate professionally and maintain confidentiality.
• Participate in quality improvement and ongoing training.

What You’ll Do as a Support Staff Technician

• Greet visitors, assess needs (including crisis situations), and connect them with appropriate staff
• Answer, route, and document routine and emergency calls; page staff and announce codes as needed
• Manage visitor access, issue passes, and explain hospital policies
• Support admissions and discharges by documenting activity in the electronic medical record
• Inventory, store, and return patient valuables
• Coordinate room scheduling and assist with general clerical tasks
• Respond to alarms and emergencies per hospital protocols
• Communicate professionally, maintain confidentiality, and support a positive team environment
• Participate in quality improvement and ongoing training
