Job summary

Jobtailor in Reno, NV seeks a compassionate program assistant to provide quality services to participants, maintain daily routines, and ensure safety and security on site.

Qualifications

  • Demonstrated ability to communicate and comprehend oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to provide services to participants without ethnic or social prejudices.
  • General knowledge of issues and challenges unique to homelessness, substance abuse, young adults, minorities, and persons with disabilities.
  • CPR and First Aid training within ninety (90) days of employment, with re-certification as necessary.
  • Annual T.B. testing.
  • Must undergo a criminal background check.

Responsibilities

  • Provide quality, safe, non-judgmental, compassionate, and professional services to program participants.
  • Explain program rules and regulations and facilitate participant observance.
  • Coordinate meal preparation/service, sleeping assignments, showers, laundering, and daily routines.
  • Provide awake shift coverage and maintain ground security.
  • Conduct hourly safety and security checks.
  • De-escalate crises and provide emergency assistance to participants and co-workers.
  • Maintain daily reports and statistical information.
  • Perform housekeeping and maintenance tasks and prepare dorm areas.
  • Respond to participant questions and concerns.
  • Perform clerical duties including answering telephones, recording messages, and filing.
  • Coordinate, inventory, store, and distribute participant property.
  • Post removal notices for unattended belongings and bicycles.
  • Document and report client concerns and infractions.
  • Maintain linen documentation and inventory control.
  • Oversee restrooms, showers, laundry facilities, equipment, and supplies.
  • Complete shift logs, observation logs, and incident reports.
  • Notify management of workflow problems and resource needs.
  • Communicate with on-site staff, supervisors, service providers, and county/state/city representatives.
  • Assist with orientation and training of new employees.
  • Identify ongoing training needs and support program development.
  • Process, assign, and distribute participant mail.
  • Support staff in implementing participant development plans.
  • Notify VOA and Washoe County case management staff of pertinent participant issues.
  • Model positive behavior as clients work toward self-sufficiency.
