Job summary

RWJBarnabas Health is seeking a Support Aide to join our Environmental Services team. This full-time evening position supports cleaning across patient and non-patient areas, adhering to safety and infection-control guidelines to maintain a sanitary hospital environment.

Responsibilities include dusting, mopping, waste handling, linen transport, bed preparation, and reporting supplies or maintenance needs. Strong English communication, teamwork, and reliability are essential for patient safety

Qualifications

• Must know how to use common housecleaning implements such as mops, floor waxes, and scouring pads to keep areas clean and well serviced.
• Ability to follow oral or written instructions.
• Work with constant concern for the safety of all people (patients, visitors, etc.).
• Interacts positively with coworkers across departments to support patient care.

Responsibilities

• Dust, damp mop, spot clean and disinfect fixtures, furnishings in both patient and non-patient areas
• Vacuum and spot-clean mats and carpets as assigned
• Empty, clean and re-line waste baskets
• Transport regular and contaminated waste/linen to the required areas
• Wash and disinfect beds/cribs at discharge and prepare beds for new occupants
• Follow isolation cleaning procedures to prevent pathogen spread
• Clean and disinfect bathroom fixtures, mirrors, windows, doors, walls; replenish supplies
• Notify supervisor when supplies are low and report maintenance needs
• Maintain tools and equipment; economical use of supplies
• Deliver clean linen throughout the facility
• Attend in-service training and other educational programs

Support Aide Full Time Evening

Job Overview

Cleans all patient and non-patient areas of the hospital, and other areas as directed

Essential Functions

• Dust, damp mop, spot clean and disinfect fixtures, furnishings in both patient and non-patient areas
• Vacuum and spot‑clean mats and carpets, as assigned
• Empty, clean and re‑line waste baskets
• Transport regular and contaminated waste/linen to the utility room or proper areas
• Wash and disinfect bed/crib at discharge and prepare beds for new occupants
• Follow isolation cleaning procedures when cleaning isolation rooms to prevent the spread of pathogens.
• Clean and disinfect bathroom fixtures, mirrors, windows, doors, and walls as far as can be reached and replenish bathroom supplies if necessary.
• Notifies supervisor when supplies in the Environmental Services storage room are low
• Report work orders when repairs are needed in assigned areas
• Maintains tools and equipment in good condition; is responsible for economical use of supplies
• Mechanical aptitude for operating machines and equipment may include hard floor surface maintenance- strip, refinish, burnish and shampoo carpets
• Delivers clean linen throughout the facility
• Enhances professional growth and development by attending in‑service, required meetings and other educational programs

Scheduling Requirements

• Mandatory 3‑week M‑F 6:30am - 3:00pm, must be able to attend
• Rotating Weekends and Holidays required
• Shift working: Day 2:30pm - 11:00pm

Required Skills/Abilities
