RWJBarnabas Health is seeking a Patient Support Associate for the OR-Environmental Services team at Community Medical Center in Toms River, NJ. The role focuses on maintaining clean, safe patient care environments, transporting patients, and assisting with patient positioning and supply coordination.

Typical duties include cleaning OR rooms, responding to spills, transporting patients, and ensuring supplies are stocked.

Qualifications

• AHA Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is required.
• Preferred: High School Diploma or GED.
• Knowledge of inventory control techniques is a plus.
• Hospital operating room housekeeping experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Cleaning and sanitizing OR rooms, sub-sterile areas, and other spaces per schedules and methods.
• Responding to emergency spills and urgent cleaning needs to maintain safety.
• Transporting and transferring patients to and from the department with proper ID procedures.
• Assisting with patient positioning and other aspects of care as directed by the clinical team.
• Communicating any unusual incidents or changes to the RN or team promptly.
• Monitoring oxygen flow during patient transport to ensure adequate supply.
• Cleaning and disinfecting transport equipment after use.
• Maintaining inventory levels of housekeeping supplies and restocking areas.
• Emptying waste baskets and transporting waste to disposal areas.
• Scrubbing and buffing floors when requested.
• Washing mop heads and keeping cleaning equipment ready.
• Using department tools and responding timely to requests from patients and staff.
• Supporting a clean, organized, and safe department environment.

As a Patient Support Associate, a typical day might include the following:

• Cleaning and sanitizing OR rooms, sub-sterile areas, and other assigned department spaces according to established schedules, procedures, and prescribed methods.
• Responding promptly to emergency spills and other urgent cleaning needs to help maintain a safe environment.
• Transporting and transferring patients safely to and from the department while following appropriate patient identification procedures.
• Assisting with patient positioning and other aspects of patient care as directed by the clinical team.
• Remaining attentive to each patient's condition during transport and immediately communicating unusual incidents, changes, or concerns to the RN or appropriate team member.
• Monitoring the oxygen flow meter during patient transport to help ensure adequate oxygen flow throughout the journey.
• Cleaning and disinfecting transport equipment after every patient transport using appropriate disinfecting materials.
• Maintaining appropriate inventory levels of housekeeping supplies and restocking locker rooms, restrooms, storage areas, and other assigned locations.
• Emptying waste baskets, removing trash, and transporting waste from utility rooms and designated collection points to the appropriate disposal areas.
• Scrubbing and buffing floors with approved equipment when requested.
• Washing mop heads and maintaining cleaning equipment so it is ready for use.
• Using department communication tools correctly and responding in a timely manner to requests from patients, staff, and the care team.
• Supporting a clean, organized, and safe environment throughout the department.

To be considered for this opportunity, you must have an AHA Basic Life Support (BLS) certification. This is a Full-Time position, Monday-Friday, 7am-3:30pm with a weekend on-call requirement.
