Qualifications

  • Current student, junior status or higher as of Fall 2027
  • Enrolled in college pursuing a degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, Finance, Accounting, Economics, Logistics, Operations Management, Procurement and Strategic Sourcing, Project Management, Data Analytics, Business Analytics, MIS, Information Systems, Industrial Engineering, Engineering, or related field
  • Able to work full-time during the summer (up to 40 hours a week) or part time during the school year (up to 20 hours a week) and commute to the designated work location in-person per hybrid policy
  • Preferred GPA 3.0 or higher
  • Completed 2 years of undergraduate coursework
  • Interest in procurement, sourcing, operations, and logistics within the energy/utility sector
  • Proficiency with Microsoft 365 apps (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Outlook, Teams)
  • Experience with Power BI, Power Platform, SQL, Python, SAP, Coupa or similar tools

Responsibilities

  • Assist with purchasing, sourcing, contract, supplier and other Supply Chain activities to support daily operations.
  • Gather, organize, and review supply chain data to identify trends, issues and opportunities for improvement.
  • Create reports, presentations, dashboards and status updates for team members and leaders.
  • Support inventory, materials, logistics, warehouse, fleet, or planning activities to improve safety, service, cost and reliability.
  • Maintain accurate records, documentation, and system information to support data quality, compliance and audit readiness.
  • Contribute to projects, process improvements, technology updates, and change initiatives that strengthen Supply Chain processes.
  • Collaborate with Supply Chain team members, business partners, and suppliers to support project work and complete tasks.

Position Summary

Xcel Energy is seeking highly motivated students to join the Supply Chain organization as interns. This internship provides hands‑on experience supporting a large, complex utility supply chain through projects and day-to-day activities related to procurement, sourcing, purchasing, contract administration, records management, inventory management, material planning, logistics, warehouse operations, supplier coordination, governance, analytics, technology systems, and strategic initiatives. Interns will work alongside Supply Chain professionals, project managers, and business stakeholders to support operational needs, maintain accurate procurement and contract records, assist with audit readiness and compliance activities, monitor contract and purchase order status, identify closeout or extension opportunities, and help ensure materials and services are available to support safe, reliable, and cost-effective service to customers. Assignments may vary based on business need, candidate interests, academic background, and location, providing exposure to supply chain best practices, enterprise procurement processes, SAP-based purchasing and inventory tools, data analysis, demand planning, material master data management, supplier management, risk mitigation, and cross‑functional collaboration. The internship is designed to help students build business, analytical, communication, problem‑solving, and leadership skills while contributing to meaningful projects that support business objectives and utility operations.

Teams Hiring: Procurement & Purchasing Services, Material Operations, Category Management/Contract Administration, Governance/Strategy, Strategic Sourcing/Category Management, Supplier Management & Performance, Supply Chain Risk and Resilience, Fleet Operations, Logistics and Warehouse, and/or Strategic Projects/Process Improvement/Transformation Initiatives and Value Stream Support.

Typical intern responsibilities may include but are not limited to:
  • Assist with purchasing, sourcing, contract, supplier and other Supply Chain activities to support daily operations.

This position is for a May 24, 2027 start date. This position may have the possibility to extend beyond the internship’s initial term based on the candidate’s successful performance and Xcel Energy’s business needs.

Minimum Requirements
  • Current Student, Junior status (as of Fall 2027) or higher
  • Enrolled in an accredited college or university and pursuing a degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, Finance, Accounting, Economics, Logistics, Operations Management, Procurement and Strategic Sourcing, Project Management, Data Analytics, Business Analytics, Management Information Systems, Information Systems, Industrial Engineering, Engineering, or a related field of study.
  • Able to work full‑time during the summer (up to 40 hours a week)/ part time during the school year (up to 20 hours a week) and commuting to the designated work location in‑person, per our hybrid work policy.
Preferred Qualifications
  • 3.0 GPA (out of a 4.0 scale) or higher
  • Completed 2 years of undergraduate coursework
  • Analytical curiosity and demonstrated problem‑solving skills
  • Interest in procurement, sourcing, operations, and logistics within the energy/utility sector
  • Proficiency with Microsoft 365 applications; including Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Outlook, and Teams.
  • Experience with Power BI, Power Platform, SQL, Python, SAP, Coupa, or similar business and analytical tools.

The anticipated starting base pay for this position is: $19.50 to $24.50 per hour
