Job description

Moonshot is seeking a Supply Chain Director to build and lead our end-to-end supply chain. This role is responsible for purchasing, sourcing, planning, logistics, and warehousing for a business delivering electrical equipment and modular data center infrastructure. Reporting to the Vice President of Engineering & Production, this leader owns whether the right material reaches the production line or project site complete, on time, and at a cost that protects margin.

The ideal candidate is a hands-on operator and strategic builder who can solve immediate material constraints while establishing the people, processes, systems, and supplier partnerships required to scale. The role will directly influence production readiness, working capital, cost, margin, delivery reliability, and Moonshot's ability to outmaneuver larger competitors on speed and execution

Key Responsibilities
  • Build the team. Recruit and develop the open roles across sourcing, purchasing, planning, warehousing, logistics, and supplier development. Define structure and accountability, run the function on clear scorecards, and remove key-person risk through cross-training, certification, and rotation.
  • Own purchasing and sourcing. Direct materials, indirect/MRO, capital equipment, and services. Standardize sourcing, contracting, and procure-to-pay, and deliver measurable total-cost-of-ownership reduction against annual targets.
  • Set commodity and component strategy. Identify the materials and components that drive our cost and schedule as the business grows, and own the strategy for each: market intelligence, forward buying, index-linked and escalation pricing, capacity and allocation agreements, buffer stock, and qualified alternates developed before they are needed.
  • Develop the supplier base. Segment suppliers and manage them on scorecards and quarterly business reviews. Build supplier quality and development: qualification, audits, first-article inspection, and corrective action.
  • Own production planning. Master schedule, order release, capacity and load leveling, and time fence discipline with Sales and Project Management. Run a monthly S&OP cycle where long-lead commitments are authorized with Finance.
  • Stand up warehousing and inventory. Layout, slotting, and location schema; receiving and inspection; cycle counting and inventory accuracy; safety stock and reorder policy; disposition of excess and obsolete material; and warehouse safety alongside QHSE.
  • Build kitting and line feed. Kit lists driven from the schedule, clear-to-build verification before release, and complete kits staged at the work center when production needs them.
  • Own vendor managed inventory. Design and launch the program: scope, replenishment model, supplier agreements, ERP integration, and the working-capital case built with Finance.
  • Manage logistics and trade. Inbound and outbound freight, oversize and project shipments, 3PL relationships, and trade and tariff compliance including classification, country of origin, and customs.
  • Manage risk and continuity. Dual sourcing for single-source long-lead items, supplier financial and continuity monitoring, and a documented disruption playbook.
  • Own the systems and the data. Item master, BOMs, routings, lead times, and planning parameters; ERP and WMS capability; live dashboards and an operating review cadence; and AI and automation applied to repetitive work.
  • Partner cross-functionally. Work day-to-day with Engineering, Production, Project Management, Finance, and Quality to align material plans with design, schedule, cash, and quality requirements, and to resolve constraints before they reach the floor.
  • Support Engineering. Sourcing and supply readiness for new products and engineering changes, including inventory impact, run-out plans, and the requalification implications of component substitution.
What Success Looks Like
  • Complete kits and clear-to-build material at scheduled job start, consistently.
  • Supplier and customer on-time delivery at or above 95%.
  • Inventory accuracy above 98%, with excess and obsolete under control and turns improving.
  • Cost savings and purchase price variance delivered to target; working capital improved.
  • Open positions filled, each with a documented process, a scorecard, and a development plan.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain, Engineering, Business, or a related field; advanced degree a plus.
  • 10+ years of progressive supply chain experience, including 5+ years leading teams in manufacturing, industrial, or mission-critical infrastructure environments.
  • End-to-end ownership across purchasing, sourcing, planning, logistics, and warehousing.
  • Direct ownership of production planning and a master schedule in a high-mix, engineer-to-order or configure-to-order environment.
  • Hands-on warehouse and inventory leadership, including kitting and line feed.
  • Category ownership of a volatile, index-priced commodity, including forward buying and escalation pricing.
  • Experience standing up or restructuring a vendor managed inventory or consignment program.
  • ERP/MRP depth and the analytical ability to work in the data rather than wait for a report.
  • A track record of recruiting and building a team inside a fast-growing organization, as well as mentoring young and inexperienced supply chain personnel.
  • Proven ability to collaborate and influence cross-functionally with Engineering, Production, Project Management, Finance, and Quality.
  • Preferred: electrical equipment, switchgear, power distribution, or data center infrastructure experience; familiarity with applicable UL standards; APICS/ASCM or ISM certification; Lean or Six Sigma. Experience in project businesses or EPC.
