Title: Supplier Quality Engineer
Location: Peoria, IL (100% Onsite)
Employment Type: Fulltime Permanent with AXISCADES.
Position Overview:
We are seeking a highly motivated Supplier Quality Engineer (SQE) to support our automotive manufacturing operations. The SQE is responsible for ensuring that all purchased parts and components meet company quality standards and customer expectations. This role involves working closely with suppliers, engineering and production teams to resolve quality issues and drive continuous improvement across the supply base.
Key Responsibilities:
Qualify and evaluate new suppliers in accordance with automotive standards (e.g., IATF 16949, ISO 9001).
Monitor and improve supplier performance using KPIs such as PPM, on-time delivery and audit scores.
Conduct supplier audits, process reviews and quality system assessments.
Lead the resolution of supplier quality issues using problem-solving tools such as 8D, 5-Whys and Fishbone analysis.
Review PPAP (Production Part Approval Process) submissions and approve supplier components for production.
Manage supplier change notifications and assess risk to production quality.
Collaborate with internal teams (Design, Manufacturing, Purchasing) to ensure product quality and compliance.
Develop and implement supplier quality improvement plans.
Maintain documentation and compliance in line with automotive quality systems and customer-specific requirements.
Support APQP (Advanced Product Quality Planning) processes for new product launches.
Education & Skills Required:
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Industrial or related field).
3+ years of experience in supplier quality or manufacturing quality in the automotive industry.
Strong knowledge of IATF 16949, ISO 9001, APQP, PPAP, FMEA, and MSA.
Proficient in reading engineering drawings and using measurement tools.
Skills Preferred:
Certified Quality Engineer (CQE) or Six Sigma certification.
Experience with OEM or Tier 1 suppliers.
Familiarity with ERP and quality management systems (e.g., SAP, QMS software).
