The Smithsonian Institution is seeking a qualified candidate to oversee its personnel security program. This role involves managing security operations, developing policies, and providing leadership to security staff. The position is essential for ensuring the integrity and safety of personnel across the institution.

This position is located in the Smithsonian Institution, Office of the Under Secretary for Finance and Administration, Office of Human Resources (OHR), Talent Management. Experience: You qualify for GS-14 if you have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-13 level in the Federal Service. For this position, specialized experience is defined as 1) Managing personnel security operations that includes providing leadership and direction to security assistants/specialists; 2) Developing and implementing personnel security policies/procedures; 3) Administering and monitoring background investigation requests; 4) reviewing/adjudicating background investigation reports.
For GS-15-You qualify for this position if you have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-14 level in the Federal Service. For this position, specialized experience is defined as: 1) Managing personnel security operations that includes providing leadership and direction to security assistants/specialists; 2) Developing and implementing personnel security policies/procedures; 3) overseeing the allocation of personnel, financial, and technological resources; 4) creating metrics and reports that monitor work volume and productivity and 5) providing technical expertise in security administration, to include analytical, management, and oversight support for security and suitability process changes
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
