Job summary

Leidos is seeking a Supervisory Paralegal to work on-site in Washington, DC, supporting a Government project within the National Fraud Enforcement Division of the DOJ. You will lead a team of paralegals and support staff on major litigation support efforts and research tasks.

The role requires a Bachelor's degree with 4+ years of litigation paralegal experience, supervisory capabilities, and strong familiarity with legal research tools such as Lexis and Westlaw. U.S.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree (or equivalent) with 4+ years of litigation paralegal experience.
  • Experience in automated litigation support.
  • Supervisory experience and strong communication with clients and attorneys.
  • Sound working knowledge of federal and state court system, legal research procedures, and resources.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills and thorough knowledge of Lexis and Westlaw.
  • Hands-on familiarity with word processing, databases, spreadsheets, and imaging.

Responsibilities

  • Directs and supervises paralegals and support staff on major projects and large research efforts.
  • Monitors progress and reports on status to leadership.
  • Ensures work meets contract and attorney requirements and is delivered on time.
  • Performs detailed reviews of case materials, including financial records and litigation files.
  • Indexes case files and drafts procedures for litigation support tasks.
  • Acts as team leader for a group of legal professionals as required.
  • Reviews audio files for relevance and updates databases with findings.
  • Communicates with DOJ components, federal agencies and others during investigations.
  • Utilizes Excel to track information and analyze case statistics.
  • Supports trial preparation: document organization, Bates stamping and research.
  • Uses Relativity, Casemap, Oncue for discovery production.
  • Searches Relativity per criteria and reviews results for relevance.
  • Coordinates with contractor data processing and other teams; travels up to 50% as needed.

Job description

Leidos is seeking a Supervisory Paralegal to work on-site in support a Government project in Washington, DC. Be one of the first to dedicate your skills and talent to a newly formed division of the Department of Justice, National Fraud Enforcement Division.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Directs and supervises the work of paralegals and other support staff, particularly on major paralegal support efforts, such as large legal research projects or major in-courtroom support
  • Monitors work and reports on progress
  • Ensures that paralegal and support staff work meets contract and attorney requirements and is delivered on time
  • Performs detailed reviews and analysis of case materials, including financial records, health care materials, and other litigation files
  • Performs detailed indexing of case files; drafts procedures for accomplishing litigation support assignments; performs document acquisition related tasks; screens for privilege documents; and conducts database searches
  • Serves as "team leader" for a group of legal professionals, as required
  • Reviews audio files for relevance and updates databases with findings
  • Communicates with other DOJ components, Federal agencies and others as required during investigations and litigation
  • Utilizes Excel spreadsheets to track information and analyze case statistics
  • Performs trial preparation tasks, including copying, document review, document organization, bates stamping, legal research and searching documents in Concordance/Summation
  • Utilizes electronic and evidence management and discovery production processes and tools, such as Relativity, Casemap and Oncue, to support investigations
  • Searches the Relativity database per criteria developed by case team management
  • Reviews search result sets for relevance based on written criteria
  • Troubleshoots and performs quality control spot-checks
  • Formulates administrative and technical procedures for getting the work done
  • Performs complex legal and factual research
  • Designs and develops systems and procedures for tracking, controlling, and managing case files, exhibits, and other case-specific materials
  • Assists trial staff in coordination with expert witnesses and litigation consultants
  • Arranges for access to appropriate DOJ libraries and other legal research facilities
  • Coordinates with other Contractor support components, including data processing support staff, in order to accomplish work
  • Potential travel up to 50% of the time to aid with trial preparation
  • Reports to Project Supervisor or Project Manager; may also have significant contact with COR, Government Case Manager, trial attorneys and staff, client agency staff, and opposing counsel
Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor\'s degree (or equivalent) and 4+ years of litigation paralegal experience, including trial experience
  • At least one year of experience in automated litigation support
  • Supervisory experience, including proven capabilities and communication skills to successfully interact with clients and attorneys
  • Sound working knowledge of federal and state court system, legal research procedures, and legal research resources
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills and thorough knowledge of legal research tools such as LEXIS and Westlaw
  • Hands-on familiarity with a variety of computer applications, including word processing, databases (such as document review and file management systems), spreadsheets, and imaging
  • Ability to consistently deliver highest quality work under extreme pressure
  • US Citizen and able to obtain a Public Trust clearance
Desired Qualifications
  • Familiarity with ESI tools and knowledge of eDiscovery procedures and resources
