Job summary

Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Assist Supervisory Paralegal, Project Supervisor, or Direct Report.
  • Prepare, summarize, and organize materials for attorneys in discovery and motions.
  • Summarize depositions and transcripts; maintain case files; conduct basic legal research.
  • Index and track documents in discovery; manage exhibits for depositions and trials.
  • Assist attorneys in the courtroom; review documents for relevance and privilege.

Overview

The Litigation Support Team at Leidos supporting the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) in Los Angeles, CA has an opening for a Paralegal to work in a downtown Los Angeles DOJ office performing paralegal duties. This is an opportunity to contribute to the DOJ mission. The team emphasizes a fast-paced environment, autonomy, and exposure to multiple parts of the Leidos organization, with a customer-driven focus.

Please note: this position requires a paralegal certificate.

Responsibilities
  • Works under the direction of Supervisory Paralegal, Project Supervisor, or Direct Report.
  • Performs tasks in compliance with established procedures.
  • Compiles, prepares, and summarizes relevant materials for use by attorneys in discovery and in preparation of motions, briefs, and other legal documents.
  • Summarizes depositions and other transcripts; maintains case files; performs simple legal research; indexes, tracks and controls document discovery (including documents produced and received in discovery).
  • Indexes, tracks, and exhibits and other materials at depositions and at trial.
  • Prepares exhibit cross-references.
  • Assists attorneys in courtroom.
  • Reviews documents for relevance and privilege according to established guidelines and criteria. Other examples include compilation of documents for FOIA, production requests, Congressional inquiries, etc.
Basic Qualifications
  • Requires paralegal certificate, or currently attending an ABA-accredited law school, having completed at least one year of study.
  • At least one year of litigation paralegal experience or project experience required.
  • Must have basic legal knowledge, including knowledge of standard legal citation to cite check legal motions and memoranda.
  • Must have sufficient experience with legal research tools such as LEXIS and Westlaw to perform basic legal research.
  • Thorough knowledge and hands-on familiarity with a variety of computer applications, including word processing, databases (such as document review and file management systems), spreadsheets, imaging, and hardware systems.
  • Basic familiarity with ESI tools and knowledge of eDiscovery procedures and resources.
  • Must be a US Citizen and able to obtain a Public Trust clearance.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working in a Government and/or Litigation Support environment in conjunction with basic qualifications, valued.
  • Trial experience very helpful.
  • Experience with Relativity or similar applications.
  • Automated litigation support experience.
  • Current or active clearance.
Pay and Benefits

This position is covered under the Service Contract Act with a pay rate of $24.49/hr. Leidos notes that the stated pay range is a general guideline and may be adjusted based on responsibilities, education, experience, knowledge, skills, and applicable factors.
