Summary
The incumbent serves as Supervisory Medical Support Assistant (MSA) at the Knoxville Community Based Outpatient Clinic (CBOC) as part of an inter-professional healthcare team. Supervisory MSA provides support across multiple ancillary and inter-professional clinics and determines the needs of the Veteran/caregiver. The MSA is responsible for routing clinical questions to appropriate clinical staff.
Duties
Supervisory MSAs at this level plan and direct programs at medical centers and/or satellite outpatient clinics and have full supervisory responsibility for supervising at least one subordinate team leader or supervisor. Assignments include: assigning and evaluating subordinate staff work; resolving complex problems; evaluating new products, equipment, and systems; identifying training needs; making final hiring decisions; evaluating performance; and taking disciplinary actions. The employee has full administrative and professional responsibility for planning and directing the MSA's activities. Responsible for data analysis to support performance reports for senior management.
Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 7:45AM to 4:30PM

Basic Requirements
Experience must demonstrate knowledge of MSA practices or equivalent administrative clinical support in a non-VA setting.
May qualify under Grandfathering Provision if applicable.
One year of experience at GS-07 level leading or supervising MSAs or similar staff, with examples including scheduling, guidance, creating schedules, acting as liaison, etc. Candidates must demonstrate KSAs such as administrative supervision, collaboration, staff training, fiscal management, and independent decision-making.
Experience must be documented with job title, duties, dates, hours/week.
Primarily sedentary work with walking, handling multiple demands, prolonged computer use, and occasional stairs.
No educational substitution at this grade level.
