We are seeking a Supervisory Lifeguard to provide certified lifeguard services at Whiteman AFB Outdoor Pool, located at 777 Mitchell Ave, Whiteman AFB, MO. Services are required from 19 May 2025 through 5 September 2025, covering the 2025 summer season (approximately Memorial Day through Labor Day). Applicants must be 21+ years old.

Role of the Supervisory Lifeguard

Whiteman Air Force Base operates an outdoor pool to support the morale, welfare, and recreation (MWR) program for active-duty military members, their families, retirees, and DoD civilians. The pool operates seasonally from Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day. Lifeguard services are essential to ensure the safety of all patrons during open swim hours, private functions, and instructional swim classes. As the Supervisory Lifeguard, you will oversee, supervise, and conduct periodic training of a team of lifeguards, ensuring the safety and well-being of swimmers and guests. Responsibilities include monitoring water activities, enforcing safety rules, providing emergency assistance, offering first aid when necessary, and maintaining the pool and surrounding areas according to standards.

Typical Daily Responsibilities

• Lead and supervise a team of lifeguards, ensuring proper coverage.
• Conduct four hours of in-service training and Emergency Action Plan (EAP) drills monthly.
• Evaluate and provide feedback to lifeguard staff.
• Continuously monitor the swimming area for safety.
• Open the swimming area at scheduled times and control access.
• Rescue and assist swimmers in trouble, administer first aid, and call for medical help when needed.
• Perform related duties such as pool cleaning, sanitizing, and maintenance, including:
• Pool vacuuming and scrubbing
• Removing foreign objects from the pool surface and bottom
• Disposing of trash and cleaning the pool deck and facilities
• Conduct hourly water quality testing and add chemicals as directed.
• Provide courteous customer service.

Qualifications

You might be the ideal candidate if you have:

• A current Lifeguard Training Certificate from a U.S. nationally certified agency such as the American Red Cross.
• A current CPR/AED certification from a U.S. nationally certified agency such as the American Red Cross or American Heart Association.
• Basic First-Aid Training.
• Experience as a Head Lifeguard, demonstrating leadership skills.
• Good physical health, ability to swim long distances, perform rescues, and meet fitness standards.
• Effective communication skills.
• Strong observation skills to identify hazards.
• Ability to work collaboratively with team members and management.
• Ability to pass a background check.
