Job summary

U.S. Army MWR at Fort Buchanan, PR is seeking a food service supervisor to plan and manage daily operations for sit-down dining and catering, develop menus, forecast needs, and oversee safety, sanitation and budgets.

The role directs staff, handles performance management, training and development, and ensures efficient service delivery. Shift may include evenings, weekends, or holidays; requires physical ability and completion of pre-employment checks.

Qualifications

• Culinary work experience in sit-down restaurant or catering operations.
• Sous chef experience highly preferred.
• Accredited culinary program may substitute for experience.

Responsibilities

• Plans and manages the day-to-day operation of a food service program where sit-down restaurant dining and catering are a regular, substantial basis of the total food operation.
• Develops daily, catering, and specialty menus and provides forecasts for required tools, equipment, food items, and other supplies.
• Prepares and/or oversees the preparation of menu items which involve standard to moderately complex and innovative cooking methods.
• Conducts regular inspections and evaluations to ensure safety, proper food storage, kitchen sanitation, and overall efficiency of operations. Develops operating budget and identifies labor, equipment, and supply cost elements.
• Directs subordinates in all phases of service delivery and provides a full range of supervisory functions to include performance management, training and development, employee recognition, and conflict resolution.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

United States (U.S.) Citizens and Non-U.S. Nationals who have resided in the U.S. or U.S. territory for three (3) or more continuous years immediately preceding the start of Federal affiliation.

Duties

Requirements

• Direct Deposit and Social Security Card is required.
• Meet qualification/eligibility/background requirements for this position.
• A one-year probationary period may be required.
• Satisfactorily complete an employment verification (E-Verify) check.
• Subject to satisfactory completion of all pre-employment checks in accordance with AR 215-3, para.2.
• Incumbent may be required to complete a Tier 1 background investigation for a Common Access Card for physical access to federally-controlled facilities.
• The ability to obtain (within first six months of employment) and maintain a Food Protection Manager Certification.
• Acquired through an American National Standards Institute(ANSl) accredited agency is required (i.e., ServSafe Food Protection Manager Certification Program).
• Hours of Operation are from Tuesday to Sunday from 06:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m. This position may require shift work to provide coverage on evenings, weekends, holidays or special situations.
• Must be able to lift or move objects up to 40 pounds unassisted, and occasionally lift or move objects weighing over 40 pounds with the assistance of other workers or lifting devices.
• An employer referred pre-employment physical examination is required.
• Must be 18 years of age by date of appointment to meet state age requirements for position.

Qualifications

• Culinary work experience in sit-down restaurant or catering operations which provided the knowledge, skills, and abilities needed to manage and supervise a food service program as described above.
• Experience as a sous chef is highly preferred.
• Successful completion of an accredited culinary program may be substituted for experience.

This job does not have an education qualification requirement.

Allowances and Differentials

• This job is part of a pay-banded system. Sunday premium pay for regularly scheduled employees and night differential pay may be authorized by the Garrison Commander.
• Non-foreign overseas allowances, cost of living (COLA), and differentials will be paid, contingent upon eligibility.
• In addition to the base hourly salary, this position is eligible for a Cost Of Living Allowance (COLA) of 2.49%.

PCS Costs

• Payment of Permanent Change of Station (PCS) costs are not authorized based on a determination that a PCS move is not in the Government's interest.
