Primary Purpose
Manage the repair and preventive maintenance program for all assigned fleet equipment which includes planning, organizing, and directing the program to support operational requirements.
Duties And Responsibilities
- Supervise the shop staff, including recruitment, training, and evaluation of employees.
- Promote good morale and teamwork within the maintenance facility.
- Attend drivers meetings to receive feedback regarding shop operation.
- Schedule and prioritize vehicle repairs to meet operational requirements.
- Assist with evaluating overall maintenance costs and make recommendations as needed.
- Control costs by comparing current parts, supplies, and vendor costs with other potential vendors.
- Provide input to procedural and operational changes within fleet maintenance to reduce costs and improve productivity.
- Assist with developing yearly budget targets for the maintenance facility.
- Respond to safety audits promptly.
- Promote high safety standards and good housekeeping methods.
- Ensure shop tools are in safe working order.
- Conduct monthly shop and safety meetings with mechanics.
- Review repair orders within the TMT system to monitor accuracy.
- Perform regular audits of work completed by mechanics.
- Evaluate vehicle repairs to determine if work should be done in-house or outsourced.
- Ensure parts inventory is maintained monthly to meet operational needs.
- Work with mechanics to analyze problems and schedule corrections.
- Ensure tractors and trailers are properly cleaned to promote a positive fleet image.
- DC-1 Specific: Inspect newly purchased equipment for conformance to specifications.
- DC-1 Specific: Perform in-service inspections and modifications for the fleet of cars and service trucks.
- Identify waste and inefficiencies and pursue improvements.
- Work with teams to improve working environment and throughput.
- Act as a change agent to promote lean education and utilization.
- Contribute to developing a continuous improvement mindset to better serve customers and support training.
- Ensure sustainability of lean processes within operations.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma
- Understanding of parts, supplies, and tools supporting shop operations and goals.
- Ability to supervise maintenance techniques.
- Ability to perform road tests and checks to review repair effectiveness.
- Ability to interpret corporate policies, procedures, and standards.
- Valid driver license/CDL preferred.
- 5+ years relevant experience
Preferred Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in related discipline.
- Supervisory experience.
- Knowledge of department manual and programs.
- Understanding of department equipment operation and maintenance.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Proficient in MS Office.
- Strong organizational and planning skills.
- Able to handle multiple priorities.
- Proficiency in learning new software.
- Effective communication with management, staff, and vendors.
- Ability to motivate and lead teams.
- Focused and strategic thinker.
