Job summary

Penn Medicine in New Jersey seeks a Sterile Processing supervisor to oversee decontamination, prep and sterilization activities. This role coordinates with OR schedules and ensures compliance with all regulatory standards to maintain instrument processing quality.

Qualifications

Summary
  • This position supervises all activities of the Sterile Processing discipline. Works with the Manager to coordinate these activities. Provides direction and oversight for decontamination, preparation and sterilization activities. The incumbent supports the OR schedules for the Hospital and Surgical Center ensuring all established procedures governing the re-processing of instruments are strictly adhered to. Responsible for oversight of instrument set, sterilization, and staff performance quality assurance audits. Performs daily review of all sterilization records to ensure full departmental compliance. Manages the daily department duty assignment schedule and priority list activities. Provides immediate oversight and onsite assistance for educational preceptorship of new staff members and students. Evaluates and responds to the immediate needs of the operating room staff related to patient care and instrumentation. Point of contact and direct liaison with customers to ensure the correct processing and turnaround of their instrumentation is consistent with established protocols. This position will assist in the enforcement of compliance with all Infection Control, TJC, DOH, federal, state, local, hospital and department regulations. Administers constructive discipline and monitoring of staff compliance with performance improvement plans alone or in conjunction with director and managers when needed. Is responsible to actively interact and collaborate with all identified clinical and support levels of the Perioperative Services Division.
Responsibilities
  • Oversight in interpreting and developing daily re-processing plan relative to published clinical schedule of appointments Oversight/ monitoring and prioritization of decontamination, preparation, and sterilization of sets Oversight of staff and processes to provide flexible endoscope reprocessing and high-level disinfection to all customers. Provides oversight for all patient follow up inquiries related to endoscope reprocessing and instrument processing Ensures the enforcement of compliance with all Infection Control, TJC, DOH, SGNA, federal, state, local, hospital and department regulations. Ensures cost efficient management of staff, goods and supplies Participates in the preparation of operating and capital budgets for Instrument processing Maintains and manages the daily department duty assignment schedule and prioritizes or revises as required. Responds to immediate needs of the Perioperative Departments and staff related to patient care and inventory availability concerns. Ensures all operational procedures are consistently followed and maintained relative to scope and instrument tracking data collected by Censis and Mobile Aspects systems. Oversight and monitoring of daily staff productivity and efficiency Compiles, and generates all scope and instrument processing related quality measures and reports results to applicable quality councils. Prepares and approves as appropriate, departmental staffing payroll Oversight assistance for educational preceptorship of new staff members and students within the department. Assist in education of staff as related to quality assurance and improvement. Encourages ownership and accountability among staff.

Administers constructive discipline alone or in conjunction with director and managers when needed. Assists in monitoring staff compliance with performance improvement plans as needed. Evaluates staff and applicable customers ongoing learning opportunities and structures/presents in-services as appropriate Evaluates staff, generates and performs probationary and/or annual performance reviews. Oversight of twice-yearly scope processing competency assessment for staff. Serves as content expert for high-level disinfection and endoscope reprocessing.

Salary Range

$50,107.20 - $83,532.80/Annually based on 40 hours per week
