Job summary

Penn Medicine is seeking a Central Sterile Processing Technician for a 3pm–11:30pm shift with rotating weekends at our Plainsboro, NJ campus.

Responsibilities include cleaning, decontaminating, sterilizing surgical instruments, assembling trays, and maintaining records. Must hold Cert Central Supply Tech and a high school diploma or equivalent; vocational training preferred. We offer comprehensive benefits and equal opportunity employment.

Qualifications

• High School Graduate or GED required; equivalent work experience accepted.
• Vocational/Technical school diploma preferred.
• Cert Central Supply Tech certification required.

Responsibilities

• Clean and disinfect medical instrumentation.
• Retrieve soiled instruments from ASC and Labor and Delivery.
• Assemble instrument sets and trays per manufacturer instructions.
• Document and maintain sterilization records.
• Follow PPE procedures.
• Package equipment after decontamination and prep for redistribution.
• Rotate stock and check expiration dates.
• Ensure code cart inventory and restock as needed.
• Assess equipment and separate defective items for Biomed repair.
• Use instrument tracking for inventory control and reorders.
• Participate in quality initiatives and educational in-services.

Education

Schedule: 3pm - 11:30am with rotating weekends

Summary:

• As a member of the Central Sterile Processing team, checks instrumentation for defects and cleanliness; assembles instrument sets and trays according to established procedures. Responsibilities also include, but are not limited to, decontaminating and sterilizing surgical instrumentation and supplies. Participates in Quality initiatives in the department.

Responsibilities:

• ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES


• 1. Responsible for proper cleaning and disinfection of medical instrumentation using appropriate methods.


• 2. Retrieves soiled instrumentation and IV pumps from the Ambulatory Service Center and Labor and Delivery.


• 3. Assembles instrument sets and trays following proper manufacturer instructions.


• 4. Properly documents and maintains sterilization records.


• 5. Follows procedures relative to proper use of PPE.


• 6. Packages equipment following decontamination process and prepares items for redistribution.


• 7. Participates in the rotation of stock and inspects stock for expiration dates.


• 8. Ensures proper code cart inventory, restocking as needed.


• OTHER JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES


• 1. Assesses equipment and separates defective items from rotation and sends items to Biomed for repair.


• 2. Effectively uses the instrument tracking to support inventory control reorders supplies as needed.


• 3. Participates in departmental Quality initiatives and educational in services.

Credentials:

• Cert Central Supply Tech (Required)

Education or Equivalent Experience:

• High School Graduate/GED/Equivalent Work Exp required


• Vocational / Technical School / Diploma Program preferred

Salary Range:

$20.95 - $33.42/Hourly
