Job summary

Penn Medicine is seeking a Sterile Processing Technician to support the Operating Room by decontaminating, inspecting, assembling, packaging, and sterilizing surgical instruments. Located in Philadelphia, you will be a vital part of the PeriOperative Services team, ensuring instruments are prepared accurately for scheduled procedures.

Minimum high school diploma with 0–1 year instrument processing experience. CRST certification or CRCST to be obtained within 18 months of hire is required.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • 0–1 year instrument processing experience preferred.
  • Certification/CRCST to be obtained within 18 months of hire.
  • Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRST) is required.

Responsibilities

  • Cleans, decontaminates, inspects, assembles, packages, and sterilizes surgical instruments, linens, and identifies items in need of repairs.
  • Follows OR priority list and requests for required instruments.
  • Operates instrument tracking software; produces at least 15 instrument sets daily.
  • Documents processed materials not tracked by the electronic system.
  • Serves as a knowledge resource to the team and supports department goals.

Sterile Processing

This position is located at 3250 South 76th Street, Philadelphia, PA

  • The incumbent supports the Operating Room schedule by decontaminating, inspecting, assembling, packaging, and sterilizing surgical instrumentation. The incumbent is a vital member of the PeriOperatvie Services Team and must adhere to all Perioperative standards of practice. He/She must ensure the finished surgical instrument set is assembled appropriately for the scheduled procedure and that all instruments and supplies are dispatched to the correct location. The incumbent is accountable for the facilitation of common goals within the department, independent daily assignment duties, and for project duties as assigned within the department. He/She will also serve as a resource to the team and will be responsible for personal professional development as it relates to the department.
Responsibilities:
  • Operations:
  • Cleans, decontaminates, inspects, assembles, packages, and sterilizes surgical instrumentation, linens and identifies those in need of repairs.
  • Follows established priority list, edited O.R. schedule, and telephone requests for required instruments.
  • Navigates automated instrument tracking system software. Produces a minimum of 15 instrumentation sets per day.
  • Demonstrates basic knowledge of the T-doc system.
  • Clearly documents as applicable, all processed material not track via electronic system.
Credentials:
  • Certified Registered Central Service Technician (Required)
  • Certification as a Central Processing Technician OR CRCST must be obtained within 18 months from date of hire.
Education or Equivalent Experience:
  • H.S. Diploma/GED (Required)
  • And 0-1 years Instrument processing experience (Required)
