Supervisor of Special Education
Working from one of our Family Service Centers, the Supervisor of Special Education serves as an educational leader and assists other school leadership in the planning, coordination, and directing of activities and programs related to the administration of one or more grade levels/schools. The Supervisor of Special Education works with teachers, administrators, parents/guardians and related service staff to ensure that students with IEPs are receiving an appropriate and effective educational program in the least restrictive environment. The Supervisor of Special Education works as part of the general education and special education teams to assist in delivering the best educational program for students.
Supervisors of Special Education support the teaching staff in fostering evidence-based, inclusive instructional practices through the lens of Multi-Tiered Systems of Support and universal design for learning to meet the needs of all students. The Supervisor of Special Education will lead teachers as they provide daily instruction and support to learners. The Supervisor of Special Education will use various technologies and in-person visits to support teaching and learning and family engagement. The Supervisor of Special Education consults regularly with learners and families, ensuring that each child successfully completes their instructional program.
The Supervisor must be knowledgeable of effective instructional practices in special education as well as special education laws and regulations. The Supervisor of Special Education will work with teachers and parents to provide special education in the least restrictive environment. The Supervisor will provide leadership and support to special education teachers in their specific program or grade band. The Supervisor will work closely with families to reduce and resolve any conflict or disputes.
This individual will operate in compliance with all state and federal laws and regulations and school policies and guidelines and ensure that all staff working with learners are being held to that standard. This position reports to a Principal.
This job operates in a professional office environment. This is not a work from home position. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and fax machines.
This is largely a sedentary role. Requires the ability to lift, squat, sit, bend, or stand as necessary. Ability to travel to other sites/locations as needed.
