The City of New York’s Housing Authority seeks a Supervisor of Housing Caretakers. Under supervision, you will instruct and supervise Housing Caretakers who maintain public housing grounds and spaces, and you will report move-ins/move-outs and hazardous conditions.

Requirements include one year of permanent civil service service in the title of Housing Caretaker and eligibility for the 55-a Program. NYCHA offers competitive benefits and a defined pension plan.

Job Description

Under supervision, instruct and supervise the Housing Caretakers responsible for cleaning and maintaining the grounds, public spaces and stair halls of public housing projects in proper condition; perform related work.

Specific duties shall include, but not be limited to the following:

1. Make assignments, train, and check performance of Housing Caretakers.
2. Report move-ins and move-outs.
3. Handle tenant lockouts.
4. Fill out work orders as a result of apartment inspections.
5. Report any hazardous conditions observed in any part of the project.

1. Due to the existence of a civil service list, candidates must have permanent civil service status in the title of Supervisor of Housing Caretakers to be considered.
2. INTERAGENCY TRANSFERS INTO NYCHA OF THOSE PERMANENT IN TITLE ARE NOT PERMITTED IN THE FACE OF AN ACTIVE AND VIABLE NYCHA PROMOTION LIST OR PREFERRED LIST FOR THE SAME TITLE.
3. For NYCHA employees: this position is open on a direct transfer (lateral) basis only. It is not open as a promotional opportunity.
4. NYCHA employees applying for transfer opportunity must have served a period of one year at current location and in current title and level (if applicable).
