Position Summary

The Nursing Supervisor of Neuro Stepdown is responsible for coordinating patient placement, staffing assignments, and daily clinical operations to ensure the delivery of high-quality patient care. This role provides leadership and support to nursing staff, oversees clinical activities, facilitates communication among interdisciplinary teams, and assists with operational, budgetary, and quality improvement initiatives. The incumbent serves as a clinical resource and may perform direct patient care duties as needed to support departmental needs.

Key Responsibilities
Clinical Leadership & Patient Care
  • Coordinate patient placement and staff assignments to ensure appropriate patient care coverage and optimal utilization of resources.
  • Supervise and oversee daily clinical activities to maintain quality, safety, and compliance with organizational standards.
  • Assist clinical staff with patient care activities and unit operations as needed.
  • Respond promptly to changes in patient conditions and direct nursing staff in managing clinical situations.
  • Perform staff nurse duties when necessary based on patient acuity and department census.
Staff Supervision & Development
  • Facilitate nursing staff attendance at required meetings, educational sessions, and organizational initiatives.
  • Participate in the planning, coordination, and delivery of staff education, orientation, and ongoing training programs.
  • Provide guidance and consultation to staff regarding policies, procedures, and clinical practices.
  • Support staff performance and foster a collaborative, professional work environment.
Operations Management
  • Assist with the supervision and coordination of unit operations to ensure efficient workflow and effective service delivery.
  • Maintain appropriate inventory levels and order supplies as needed.
  • Ensure proper maintenance and functionality of equipment and the physical environment within the assigned area.
  • Monitor resource utilization to promote operational efficiency and cost-effective practices.
Quality & Performance Improvement
  • Participate in unit-based quality improvement, patient safety, and performance enhancement initiatives.
  • Assist in identifying opportunities for process improvement and implementing solutions to improve patient outcomes.
  • Support compliance with regulatory, accreditation, and organizational standards.
Financial & Administrative Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with the department manager in the development, monitoring, and control of departmental budgets.
  • Ensure accuracy of staff timekeeping and attendance records.
  • Monitor staffing levels and resource allocation to support operational and financial objectives.
Communication & Collaboration
  • Serve as a liaison between nursing staff, physicians, patients, family members, department leaders, and other healthcare team members.
  • Promote effective interdisciplinary communication to support coordinated patient care.
  • Participate in Nursing and Medical Center committees and workgroups as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Registered Nurse (RN) license in good standing.
  • Bachelor's degree in nursing (BSN) preferred; equivalent education and experience may be considered.
  • Previous clinical nursing experience required.
