Job summary

Yale New Haven Health is seeking an Environmental Services Supervisor to manage day-to-day EVS operations. You will supervise staff, coordinate shifts, and ensure areas are cleaned to standard while addressing customer requests and issues.

You will interpret hospital policies and the union contract, conduct performance evaluations, and drive training to meet department needs. This role requires strong customer service, leadership, and organizational skills in a hospital setting.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED completed.
  • Minimum two years of supervisory experience preferred; strong customer service background.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise EVS staff and ensure tasks are completed in assigned areas.
  • Adjust daily assignments based on staffing changes.
  • Assess work quality through rounds and QA checks.
  • Resolve customer calls, complaints, and requests promptly.
  • Interpret policies and union contract to manage activities.
  • Resolve disputes and staff work issues.
  • Initiate disciplinary actions when required on shift.
  • Conduct performance evaluations for staff on shift.
  • Coordinate training needs and ensure requirements are met.
  • Interview and hire staff with department leadership involvement.
  • Lead daily staff meetings.
  • Create and manage staff schedules; approve time off.
  • Review and revise assignments as conditions change.
  • Identify process improvements using structured methods.
  • Propose and write department procedures.
  • Support and promote hospital and department initiatives.
  • Notify leadership of operational issues during shifts.

Manage The Day To Day Activities Of The Environmental Services Department. Resolve Employee And Workflow Issues. Coordinate Evs Activities With Other Departments; Problem-Solve To Meet Department And Customer Needs. Ensure All Areas Are Cleaned As Scheduled And To An Acceptable Level. Manages And Disciplines Employees According To Union Contract And Hospital Policies. Maintains Documentation Regarding Work Performance Of Employees On An Ongoing Basis.

Responsibilities
  • 1. Supervise Evs Staff To Ensure All Work Is Completed; Ensure Staff Is In Assigned Areas Performing Assigned Duties; And Revise Assignments Daily Based On Available And Changing Staffing.
  • 2. Determine If Work Quality Meets Standards Through Daily Rounds And Quality Assurance Checks.
  • 3. Problem-Solve To Resolve Customer Calls, Complaints And Requests.
  • 4. Interpret Hospital/Department Policies And Union Contract To Manage And Approve Employee Activities.

  • 7. Complete And Conduct Performance Evaluations For All Employees On The Shift In A Timely Manner.
  • 8. Determine And Coordinate Training Needs Of All Employees; Ensure Training Requirements Are Met.
  • 9. Interview And Select Employees For Hire With Department Director.
  • 10. Conduct Daily Staff Meetings.
  • 11. Create And Manage Employee Schedule; Approve Pto, Sick And Special Time-Off Requests.
  • 12. Review And Revise Written Work Assignments Based On Changing Conditions.
  • 13. Identify And Initiate Process Improvements Using Blue Belt Techniques.
  • 14. Propose And Write Department Procedures.
  • 15. Support And Promote All Hospital And Department Initiatives.
  • 16. Notify Director And Other Supervisors Of Operational Issues Occurring During Shift.
  • 17. Performs Other Duties As Assigned Or Directed To Ensure Smooth Operation Of The Department/Unit.
Qualifications

Education: High School / GED Completed.

Experience

2 Yrs Prior Supervisory Experience Preferred; Two Years Broad Customer Service Experience Required.
