Job summary

DHL Express in Tempe is seeking a Customs Brokerage Supervisor to oversee tariff verification, price conversions, weight and volume checks for goods moving across borders. You will review invoices, bills of lading, and shipping statements to ensure compliance with federal and international regulations.

The role leads a team of about 30 staff, focusing on hiring, coaching, training and performance management while driving efficient, compliant customs clearance across DHL facilities.

Qualifications

• U.S. Customs Broker License required.
• Broad understanding of principles and concepts in function or business area.
• Advanced understanding of work supervised and practical application to problems and situations.

Responsibilities

• Manages and coordinates customs clearance activities in the customs house brokerage or gateway environment in an efficient and cost-effective manner.
• Ensures compliance with federal and foreign regulations governing the shipment, receipt, and documentation of imported/exported products being shipped through all DHL facilities.
• Establishes, monitors, and revises policies, procedures and service standards for customs clearance operations.
• Ensures all policies and procedures are consistently administered.
• Responsible for meeting key performance indicators targets for a given product.
• Supervises a staff of approximately 30 with two direct reports. This person will be responsible for hiring, coaching, training, and developing subordinate staff
• Assigns work, sets completion dates, reviews work, and manages performance in accordance with organizational policies, procedures, and performance management processes

We have an immediate career opportunity for a qualified Customs Brokerage Supervisor. The Supervisor verifies tariffs, price conversions, weight, and volume of merchandise exported/imported to/from foreign destinations. The supervisor examines various documents including invoices, bills of lading, and shipping statements. The supervisor ensures compliance with federal and foreign regulations governing the shipment, receipt, and documentation of imported/exported products. The supervisor may contact customs officials to obtain release of incoming freight and resolve delays.

Key Responsibilities:

• Ensures compliance with federal and foreign regulations governing the shipment, receipt, and documentation of imported/exported products being shipped through all DHL facilities

Skills & Qualifications:

• U.S. Customs Broker License required.
• Complete understanding and wide application of principles, theories, and concepts in function or business area
• An advanced understanding of specific aspects of work supervised and practical application to problems and situations ordinarily encountered
• Knows and effectively uses fundamental concepts, practices, and procedures relative to quality and productivity improvements, training, budgeting and cost control, and progressive techniques in area of specialization
• Generally understands basic supervisory approaches for work direction, motivation, and disciplinary action
• Typically requires BS/BA and 3-5 years' experience in related field, including at least one year of supervisory experience
• Professional certification required in some areas
