Job description

The Department of Transportation is hiring a Supervisor Carpenter who will report to the Facilities Maintenance unit. The Supervisor Carpenter will supervise, direct, and be responsible for the work of Carpenters within industrial DOT properties for in-house construction projects.

Responsibilities

1. Assigns and lays out jobs for carpenters and related workers.
2. Supervises, directs, and inspects the work related to installation and replacement of flooring, doors, hardware, trim, window frames, sashes, partitions, etc.
3. Estimates job requirements from plans, specifications, and field surveys.
4. Requisitions materials and equipment.
5. Supervises the operation of departmental carpentry shop(s).
6. Supervises heavy and rough carpentry work for construction, maintenance, and repair projects such as shoring, bulkheads, scaffolds, dock facilities, sheds, and promenades.
7. Keeps records and prepares reports.
8. Ensures health and safety standards are maintained.

Minimum Qualifications

1. Seven (7) years of recent, full-time, paid carpentry experience, with at least two (2) years in a supervisory role.
2. Or a satisfactory equivalent.
